MCT/MST Formative Observation Report Form
The MST (Mentor School Teacher) and the MCT (Mentor College Teacher) will use this form to
observe, formally, the trainee’s performance and to give formative feedback based each teaching
competency.
Strengths: Shamsa has a positive attitude towards her teaching and learning. She works with me and helps
monitor students in the classroom.
Areas for improvement: Shamsa needs to be more confident when using the English Language skills
Strengths: Shamsa was keen on teaching the lesson. She is excited to use different teaching strategies for
her lessons. She tries very hard to integrate her subject.
Areas for improvement: Shamsa needs to meet all the needs of the students by continuously checking for
student’s participation and involvement.
Managing Teaching & Learning
Strengths: Shamsa is welcoming to the students in class. She acknowledges students by their names. She is
very kind with the students and treats all of them equally.
Areas for improvement: Shamsa needs to ensure that she checks for understanding with all the students in
the live session.
She needs to challenge the more capable students with higher order thinking and problem-solving skills.
Implementing Learning
Strengths: Shamsa reviewed the letters “Bb and Ll” using the RAZ kids book. She asked some questions to
the students to check for their understanding and knowledge. “What do you see?”
She has a calm approach when she implements teaching and learning in the classroom environment.
Areas for improvement: Shamsa can improve her command of the English Language when she implements
teaching the language to the students.
Assessing Learning
Strengths: Shamsa has reflected with the students to present their work once they completed their
assigned tasks. She used questioning skills to assist the students understand the content.
Areas for improvement: When students have completed the assigned tasks, extend the knowledge of the
higher capable students.
Reflection
Strengths: Shamsa tries very hard to show growth in understanding her teaching pedagogy.
Areas for improvement: Continue to grow and practise confidence when teaching in the English language.
Action Plan: Shamsa is observing my lessons and is learning how to get the students to be engaged in
teaching and learning in the classroom environment.
