Overview of the lesson:
Mariam sent the grade 1 students a Nearpod link to join which began with students reading the
review of the distance learning, cyber security rules and COVID 19 safety precautions. Next, she
proceeded with the calendar morning activities were students identified the day of the week
and listened to the Song of Sounds Key Stage 1.

Next, Mariam called upon a student to read today’s learning outcome “listen and understand
familiar words and read and understand simple sentences.”

Mariam then asked the students to identify the sound i and h make. Students responded
appropriately and with ease. Next, students were randomly called upon and instructed to
identify the picture on the screen and complete the sentence with the correct corresponding
word. This

Students were then shown pg. 55 of their phonics book and Mariam modelled how to identify
the missing letter and then instructed them to write it in the blank.

Next, Mariam reviewed the vocabulary pictures with the students on the next page and asked
them to identify the picture and write the corresponding word on the line below.

Students were then instructed to identify the correct grapheme pictures with the
