Commitment to the Profession F D C B A

Comments: MST (Mrs. Nashika) stated that Mariam is punctual and well prepared for lessons. For
future lessons, she would like Mariam to create her own interactive engaging lessons
Planning for Learning F D C B A
Comments: Lesson plans are submitted on time
Managing Learning F D C B A
Comments: Students are aware of classroom routines and expectations
Implementing Learning F D- C B A
Comments:
1. Ensure that you allow proper wait time before asking students to answer questions posed to
them
2. Ensure that you model the desired activity process for students instead of telling them to
ensure full understanding
3. Provide challenging tasks for early finishers that help build critical thinking opportunities
Assessment F D- C B A
Comments: Ensure that all provided activities can be assessed formatively (DURING the lesson). You
cannot actively monitor the students to ensure their understanding and address misconceptions if
you don’t know what they are doing because you can’t see how they are answering the questions.
Reflection on Practice F D C B A
Comments: Adequate reflection that included theory and examples. Be sure that you address the
formative assessment strategies for the next teaching practice as it is critical to monitor and discuss
with students DURING the lesson.
Overview of the lesson:
Mariam began the science lesson by reviewing the virtual classroom rules and the morning
calendar routines were the students had to identify the days of the week, months of the year,
attendance. Students were randomly called upon to answer the question.
 Excellent job of randomly calling upon students to answer the questions posed to them 
She then reviewed yesterday’s lesson on animals and their habitats by having the students
complete the quiz where they had to identify the appropriate animal with its corresponding
habitat.
Next she stated: “Today we will learn about food chain. What do animals need to survive?”
Students responded appropriately by saying food. Mariam then explained the definitions of the
following vocabulary words: food chain, 3 types of food chains (land, water and both), predator
and prey. Students were then given 30 seconds to think of other examples of predators and
prey. Students were randomly called upon to answer the question and did so with ease.
Question to consider: (1) What strategies can be implemented to ensure that students are
given proper think time before answering the questions posed to them? Think about having the
students place a picture in the chat and then discuss or having the students complete an
interactive matching predators and prey game.

She then displayed the land and water food chain diagrams and explained both food chains
from beginning to end. Students were then instructed to play the food chain game by clicking
on the link in the chat. Students had difficulty understanding what do, so Mariam then
modelled for the students how to play the food chain game.
Question to consider: (1) What strategies can be implemented to ensure that students
understand how to play the food chain game before they attempt to do it independently. Think
about the purpose of modelling versus telling. (2) What is the purpose of formative
assessment? Were you able to formatively assess the students as they were engaged in the
food chain game activity link? If not, what can be done to ensure that students are formatively
assessed throughout the lesson?
Several students finished the activity early and waited for the timer to end. Next, students were
given a quick review and Mariam asked the students to identify how food chains begin.
Students answered appropriately by saying the sun.
Question to consider: (1) What strategies can be implemented for those students who finish
their assigned tasks early? Think about providing challenging tasks with build critical thinking.
(2) What strategies can be implemented to ensure that the food chain activity game can be
used to build critical thinking through discussion? Think about the benefit of reviewing the
game questions as a formative assessment tool.
Mariam then instructed students to complete the food chain worksheet link found in the chat.

Question to consider: (1) What strategies can be implemented to ensure that students
understand how to complete the food chain worksheet. Think about the purpose of modelling
versus telling.

Action Plan:

them
 Ensure that you model the desired activity process for students instead of telling them to ensure
full understanding
 Provide challenging tasks for early finishers that help build critical thinking opportunities

Assessment:
 Ensure that all provided activities can be assessed formatively (DURING the lesson). You cannot
actively monitor the students to ensure their understanding and address misconceptions if you
