2 The adoption of the swastika by the Nazis and neo-Nazis is the most recognisable modern
3 use of the symbol in the Western world.
4 The swastika symbol, 卐 or 卍, is an ancient religious symbol in various Eurasian cultures,
5 now also widely recognized for its appropriation by the Nazi Party and by neo-Nazis.[1] It
6 continues to be used as a symbol of divinity and spirituality in Indic religions, including
7 Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.[2][3][4][5][6] It generally takes the form of a cross, the arms
8 of which are of equal length and perpendicular to the adjacent arms, each bent midway at a
9 right angle.[7][8]
10 In the Western world, it was a symbol of auspiciousness and good luck until the 1930s[9]
11 when the German Nazi Party adopted a right-facing ('clockwise') form and used it as an
12 emblem of the Aryan race. As a result of World War II and the Holocaust, in the West it
13 continues to be strongly associated with Nazism, antisemitism,[10][11] white
14 supremacism,[12][13] or simply evil.[14][15] As a consequence, its use in some countries,
15 including Germany, is prohibited by law. [A] However, the swastika remains a symbol of
16 good luck and prosperity in Hindu, Buddhist and Jain countries such as Nepal, India,
17 Mongolia, Sri Lanka, China and Japan. It is also commonly used in Hindu marriage
18 ceremonies and Diwali celebrations.

19 The word swastika comes from Sanskrit: स्वस्तिक, romanized: svastika, meaning "conducive
20 to well-being".[16][6] In Hinduism, the right-facing symbol (clockwise) ( 卐) is called
21 swastika, symbolizing surya ("sun"), prosperity and good luck, while the left-facing
22 symbol (counter-clockwise) ( 卍 ) is called sauwastika, symbolising night or tantric aspects
23 of Kali.[6] In Jain symbolism, it represents Suparshvanatha – the seventh of 24 Tirthankaras
24 (spiritual teachers and saviours), while in Buddhist symbolism it represents the auspicious
25 footprints of the Buddha.[6][17][18] In several major Indo-European religions, the swastika
26 symbolises lightning bolts, representing the thunder god and the king of the gods, such as
27 Indra in Vedic Hinduism, Zeus in the ancient Greek religion, Jupiter in the ancient Roman
28 religion, and Thor in the ancient Germanic religion.[19] The symbol is found in the
29 archeological remains of the Indus Valley Civilisation[20] and Samarra, as well as in early
30 Byzantine and Christian artwork.[5]

21 major decisions during an election period that may burden any incoming government if there is a
22 change of government, it doesn’t however deny a Prime Minister to exercise his rights as a Prime
