Elk management advisory
group to meet May 25th
The Elk Management Citizen Advisory Group will
meet via Zoom on May 25 from 8 a.m. to noon. The
meeting will be streamed on the Montana Fish, Wildlife
& Parks website.
Anyone interested in offering comment during the

Here’s a *T*I*P*
You’ve maybe seen the TV commercial for private
jet service where the poor young boy and his dad can’t
make “the big game” that day because their private jet
is being serviced, or something. John Elway comes to
the rescue and offers them to ride on his, much more
dependable private charter jet company, because he’s
going to “the big game” as well. They are thrilled and
the young boy says to his dad, “Can we use ‘Whatever
Private Jet Company’ to go to all the games?”
Sounds pretty unrealistic and out of reach for so
many of us, it made me laugh.
But maybe not so silly to many Montanan’s, in the
Bozeman area at least. The Bozeman Yellowstone Airport
is in Belgrade. We were recently at a granddaughters “big
game” and during the course of the two hour, Belgrade
softball game, no less than eight private jets landed and/
or took off from Montana’s busiest airport. That was
after we started counting and paying more attention.
We did not count the jumbo jets, but in retrospect, over
that two hour period private charter outnumbered the
commercial airlines.
Apparently the price of fuel and the cost of private
jets is not a deterrent to travel by the jet set. – Burl

too far out..But I think it's us, Conrad and Malta."

Where were you on May 18,1980?

42 years ago today, Mount St. Helens in Skamania
County, Washington, cataclysmically erupted. The event
led to 57 deaths, including that of David Johnston, a
dedicated USGS scientist, and caused the worst volcanic
disaster in the recorded history of the lower 48 states.
Hundreds of square miles were reduced to wasteland,
causing over $1 billion in damage (equivalent to $3.6
billion in 2021), thousands of animals were killed, and
Mount St. Helens was left with a crater on its north side.
At the time of the eruption, the summit of the
volcano was owned by the Burlington Northern
Railroad, but afterward, the railroad donated the land
to the United States Forest Service. The area was later
preserved in the Mount
St. Helens National
Volcanic Monument.
