Changes to make Brighton parking better

Dear Brighton High Administration,

This school year has been much better than the past four years although adding

some small changes to school can change it from good to great. This year hasn't been as

challenging to find a parking spot although it's been more challenging to leave/ enter the

parking lot. The main things that have been changed in the parking lot is alot more spots

have been created which is fantastic. In an interview with Zac Simpson a student who

attends Brighton High School , he mentioned that one of the biggest struggles this year to

parking is leaving and entering the parking lot is due to only having 2 exits. Zac also

mentioned that he really appreciates what the school has done in terms of adding more

parking spaces. In an interview with teacher Yee Christensin who teaches at Brighton High

School, she mentioned “There are plenty of parking spots for faculty and students. The pit

parking in the back parking lot is mostly empty in the morning. BUT I dont think seniors

like coming to school early enough to find parking. They want to arrive five minutes before

school starts and park near the doors. But it’s First come, first served “. She also mentioned

how we are very lucky to have parking. “ We are very lucky. For 4 years, we had little to no

parking. I’ve had to park across the street, down in the pit, on the road, in made-up spots by

the old auto shop and other places “. One of the main solutions that Yee Christening and Zac

Simpson mentioned is to make parking tickets more expensive so that students don't park

illegally. Even though teachers get parking tickets dismissed they still have to go to the main

office and get it removed which makes them look bad Yee said.

The goal of my action plan is to allow students and teachers the fastest way to enter

and exit the parking lot and, especially during lunch and before and after school when it's

really busy and to have less illegal parking like over lines or parking in no spots or without

passes. I have created three objectives to reach this goal. First objective is to have senior

parking where only seniors park in one lot which will be voted on by students on May 18,

2022 . The second objective is to add another exit /entrance to school in order to have more

people enter and exit the school faster. A meeting with class officers and school principal

will be held on May 18, 2022 during lunch time to make the plan on where and when they

will add the new entrance to the school. The third and final objective is to ask the school to

increase the price of parking tickets so no students park over the lines, red zones, hanicape,

facility lot and without a pass. On May 18th the school should announce the new ticket

price by sending an email to all students and teachers and making an announcement during

flex and posters all over campus.

The action plan is dependent on whether our class officers and principal want to get

to an agreement or not. In a survey by Brighton High School students the majority agreed to

have a senior parking only and to increase ticket pricing and to add another exit to the

school parking lot. All these pieces of evidence support fixing Brighton High School parking

lot.Brighton is a fantastic school with great staff but this change will make it more

convenient for students, teachers and parents who are picking up their kids.
