Research Log #_1_ - Solutionary Project 2022

Date:   February 7, 2022
Name:   Landi Luke
Essential Question:   What can we do to help children who cannot afford school supplies?

Three Points to Prove: #1: school supplies should be accessible to any and all students

#2:  access to education shouldn’t depend on how rich or poor a family is

#3: not all students have access to school supplies and it affects their
motivation to learn

Point that this Source Proves:   # 1

Excerpts (These should provide insight into the Point to Prove)

“Towards the middle of the website, it states “Hawai’i’s public schools serve an estimated 3000
homeless students statewide”

“Globally, 264 million children and adolescents do not have the opportunity to enter or complete school.
Some are children who are uprooted by conflicts and other emergencies. Others are missing out on school
because of poverty, disability or discrimination”

Analysis (How does this source support the Point to Prove?):

I think that people don’t really think about how other people are less fortunate and how
other people maybe even around them cannot afford to buy simple things like new clothes
or shoes and even school supplies in this case. I think that this is true and I don’t really
even need a website or article to prove it. I think that since this was even our idea for the
solutionary project and the website that I mentioned in the first point shows that both are
trying to spread awareness about the less fortunate students.

This excerpt shows that there are children all around the world that go to school but stick behind
their classmates because they are not provided with nor have access to the materials that they need
to succeed in school. This is something that is important because the website says that students
haven’t been able to complete or even enter school without the required or necessary supplies. This
shows that students should be able to have access to school supplies no matter how poor or
unfortunate their situation may be. If the child cannot go to school because they don’t have school
supplies, it will be harder for people even in the future since everything in the world is rising in
prices. Money is getting less valuable since so many prices on things have risen, including school
supplies.
