1.2 Mattress Industry

A bed is a piece of furniture which is used as a place to sleep or relax. most of the modern beds
consist of a soft, cushioned mattress on a bed frame, the mattress resting either on a solid base,
often wood slats, or a sprung base. Many beds include a box spring inner –sprung base, which is a
large mattress-sized box containing wood and springs that provide addition support and suspension
for the mattress. Beds are available in many sizes, ranging from infant sized bassinets and cribs, to
small beds for a single person or adult, to large queen and king-size beds designed for two people.
While most beds are single mattresses on a fixed frame, there are other varieties such as the
Murphy bed which provides two mattresses on two tiers. Temporary beds include the inflatable air
mattress and the folding camp cot. Some beds contain neither a padded mattress nor a bed frame,
such as the hammock. Some beds are made especially for Animals.
Beds may have a headboard for resting against, and may have side rails and footboards

“Headboard only “beds may incorporate a “dust ruffle”, “bed skirt”, or “valance sheet” to hide the
bed frame. To support the head, a pillow made of a soft, padded material is usually placed on the
top of the mattress. Some form of covering blanket is often used to insulate the sleeper, often bed
sheets, a quilt, or a duvet, collectively referred to as bedding, Bedding is the removable non
furniture portion of a bed, which enables these components to be washed or aired out.

6. SELF-EVALUATION

I would like to thank Duroflex private limited, for providing me the opportunity to undertake
internship in their company and creating an enjoyable working atmosphere. During my internship
I learnt many things. They helped me to gain the practical knowledge, which will help me in my
further academics. During my internship I worked in accounting department and production
department.
During my internship I was given a chance to visit the company production unit and saw the live
production of mattress. Saw how the mattresses are made at each stage. And in order to minimize
the loss the quality check team tests the quality of the some random products at each stage of
production and if the defected product is found the production of that particular product is stopped
in this stage only so, that the company should not spend on a defected and make a loss.
This internship not only helped me in my academics but also helped a lot to improve myself and
develop various skills, it boosted my self-confidence, and I learnt how to mingle with new people
and how to cope with this rapidly changing world and make myself a better person both socially
and professionally.

These were the things that I learnt during my internship.

 The importance of auditing for a company.
 Saw how the quality check of mattress happens.
 How important it is to maintain quality of products.
 Maintaining consistency in production.
 Learnt about sizes of mattress.
