STANDARD PROCEDURES FOR INSTALLATION
1. Introduction (Purpose)
● This is to describe the method to be used to ensure that duct installation, bracketing, supports,
equipment installation and final connections and workmanship are correct and acceptable, and
conforming to the contract documents and General Specifications.
● To install Ducts for the areas as indicated on drawings and specified herein.
● The objective is to ensure that the Duct installation is properly completed as per the requirements of
applicable standards and specifications.
Complete Duct Works i.e. installing as indicated on the approved drawings and specifications.
3. Responsible Personnel/Responsibilities

STANDARD PROCEDURES FOR INSTALLATION
● The progressing works are carried out according to the planned program and all the equipments
required to execute the works are available as per the project planning and are in good condition
● Co-ordinate with the Consultant, Project Manager, Site Engineer, Safety Engineer, and QA/QC
Engineer for the safe and proper execution of the work.
3.5. Foreman
● Carrying out the work and the proper distribution of all the available resources in coordination
with the site engineer on a daily basis.
● Daily reports of the works achieved and coordinate for the future planning with the Site
engineer.
● Incorporate all the QC and Safety requirements as requested by the concerned Engineer.

STANDARD PROCEDURES FOR INSTALLATION
● Met with any type of unforeseen incidents or requirements and report to the site engineer
immediately.
4. Pre-Installation Checklist
● All materials, drawings and other documentation relevant to a particular section of works will
be checked by the Construction Department prior to the commence of work.
● Before commencing any construction works, pre-inspections will be carried out on all materials
prior to them leaving the storage area.
● Prior to the commencement of any construction works, areas and access will be inspected by the
Construction Team to ensure that they are in a suitable condition for construction works to
commence.
● Coordination with other trades and disciplines will be done.
5. Work Procedures/Execution
6.1 On receipt of ducts and accessories to site, necessary precautions will be taken during unloading,
shifting to avoid damage and shall be stored in a place free of water.
6.2 Install materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
6.3 General: Assemble and install ductwork in accordance with recognized industry practices which
will achieve air tight (5 percent leakage for systems rated 75 mm and under; one percent for systems
rated over 75 mm) and noiseless (no objectionable noise) systems, capable of performing each
indicated service.
6.4 Duct pieces shall be installed and joined together as detailed on approved shop drawing. The ducts
shall be properly aligned and leveled to maintain BOD and distances as per approved shop drawing.
6.5 Field Fabrication: Complete fabrication of work at project as necessary to match shop-fabricated
work and accommodate installation requirements.
6.6 Routing: Locate ductwork runs, except as otherwise indicated, vertically and horizontally and avoid
diagonal runs wherever possible. Locate runs as indicated by diagrams, details and notations or, if
not otherwise indicated, run ductwork in shortest route which does not obstruct usable space or
block access for servicing building and its equipment.
Hold ducts close to walls, overhead construction, columns, and other structural and
permanent-enclosure elements of building. Limit clearance to 13 mm where furring is shown for
enclosure or concealment of ducts, but allow for insulation thickness, if any. Where possible, locate
insulated ductwork for 25 mm where furring is shown for enclosure or concealment of ducts, but
allow for insulation thickness, if any. Where possible, locate insulated ductwork for 25 mm
clearance outside of insulation. Wherever possible in finished and occupied spaces, conceal
ductwork from view, by locating in mechanical shafts, hollow wall construction or above suspended

ceilings. Do not encase horizontal runs in solid partitions, except as specifically shown. Coordinate
layout with suspended ceiling and lighting layouts and similar finished work.
6.7 Electrical Equipment Spaces: Do not route ductwork through transformer vaults and their electrical
equipment spaces and enclosures.
6.8 Penetrations: Where ducts pass through interior partitions and exterior walls, conceal space between
construction opening and duct or duct insulation with sheet metal flanges of same gage as duct.
Overlap opening on 4 sides by at least 38 mm. Fasten duct and substrate.
6.9 Coordination: Coordinate duct installations with installation of accessories, dampers, equipment,
controls and other associated work of ductwork system.
6.10 Installation: Install metal ductwork in accordance with SMACNA HVAC Duct Construction
Standards.
6.11 Installation of Flexible Ducts:
6.11.1 Maximum Length: For any duct run using flexible ductwork, do not exceed 1200 mm
extended length.
6.11.2 Installation: Install in accordance with Section III of SMACNA - HVAC Duct Construction
Standards, Metal and Flexible.
