1.1.1.5 Restrictions and known effects
Sending film sizes that are not available at the customer site may cause problems at the
 camera site. For this reason, it is recommended that you delete these film sizes for por‐
trait and landscape formats.
The Grayscale Standard Display Function (GSDF) is implemented for printing and imag‐
 ing. No Presentation LUTs are available. For this reason, the DICOM Presentation LUT is
not released.

 The use of the presentation LUT has to be disabled by local service for configuring LUT
files.
The density values for the image quality were measured with a calibrated densitometer
 X-Rite 301. The result of the measurement from other densitometers used may differ
from the absolute density values as described in the tables.
Print the 17 graystep test image to check the modality and camera adjustment according
 to the description. Verify the results using the reference values for max. density 2.80 lis‐
ted in the table. This is also part of the acceptance test.
With syngo versions VC40A and higher, the connection mode for DICOM print needs to
 be changed to “unsecure” because “connection mode - secure” is not supported by all
hardcopy cameras.
1.1.1.6 Errors and warning messages

Only certain errors and warnings have been tested for each hardcopy camera.
These errors and warnings are described in the corresponding camera information.

1.1.2.3 DICOM associations

A DICOM association is a network connection between 2 DICOM applications. The associ‐
ation is established and released by the SCU and may be aborted by the SCU or SCP. The
maximum number of associations for each HCC device is defined in the DCS. The maxi‐
mum number of associations depends on the configuration and may be extended by in‐
creasing the number of gateways connected to the printer device.
In a DICOM network environment, there are two ways to connect a modality (SCU) to an
HCC device (SCP).
Case 1: The association will always be opened. Assuming that this behavior applies to all
modalities (connected to the same HCC device), the number of modalities has to be equal
to or less than the maximum number of supported associations.
Case 2: The association will be opened (and closed) on demand. Assuming that this be‐
havior applies to all modalities (connected to the same HCC device), the number of mo‐
dalities may be greater than the maximum number of supported associations. This num‐
ber will be shared by the modalities.
The association open-close behavior is unknown to other non-SIEMENS modalities. Under
optimum circumstances, the number of modalities is equal to or less than the maximum
number of supported associations.
The association is always opened by the SCU (case 1)

If the associations are always opened by the SCU for each configured HCC device, the as‐
sociation is reserved for this SCU only.
If the maximum number of associations = 1, and another modality never releases the as‐
sociation, this HCC device is always reserved for this modality.
The association is opened and closed on demand (case 2)

The associations will be opened (and closed) on demand by the SCU for each configured
HCC device via the product name.

Special cases (compare also to case 1):

If the number of modalities configured in the HCC device is greater than the maximum
number of supported associations, some modalities will not be able to print. The printing
function depends on the access time and release mechanism of each connected modality
(e.g., the maximum number of supported associations = 1, the number of modalities = 2.
During access by the first modality, access by the second modality is denied and connec‐
tivity fails, and vice versa).
If other modalities do not release the associations, the shareable number of associations
decreases.
1.1.3 Modality
1.1.3.1 Hardware and software prerequisites

All hardware and software prerequisites are included in the <modality> product delivery
volume.
1.1.3.2 Parameters
For software configuration, HCC data/parameters and possibly additional film matrix
properties (syngo: filming properties) are required for software configuration.

Film matrix properties

The settings for filming properties depend on the class selected (DICOM camera). A pull-
down menu is provided for DICOM-class cameras. Select your DICOM camera type. A spe‐
cific file for this type is loaded and the "filming properties" are shown. Changing the "film‐
ing properties" will affect the camera site and may not meet the requirements. Do not
make any changes, unless otherwise instructed.

 Filming properties are "pixel size" and "media sheet size"; this information is required for
image scaling and cannot be changed.
1.1.3.3 Software configuration
 The shown Software configuration is related to the latest SW-Version released. Any set‐
ting of the previous version may differ.
n The following information is required:

- Host Name
- TCP/IP address
- Application entity title
- Port number of the DICOM remote host (DICOM camera)
The AE title, port number and camera type have to be provided by the local camera
service.
syngo software configuration and camera
1. Select “Options” in the main menu

2. Navigate to “Local Service”
 The Siemens Service Software Authentication form is displayed
3. Enter the password and click ”OK”
 The Home Menu of the syngo Service Software is displayed
4. Click ”Configuration”
 The Local Service Configuration List of system options is displayed
5. Select DICOM > ”General”
 The local Application Entity Title form page is displayed
6. Provide the Local Camera Service with the information in the field ”Print” [SCU]:
PR_”Hostname”
7. Select Local Host > ”TCP/IP LAN”
 The local Service Configuration TCP/IP LAN parameters are displayed
8. Select the external network interface card: “External-nw…”
9. Provide the Local Camera Service with the information in the ”IP address” field (by
clicking the down-arrow button)
10. Select DICOM > “Print Devices”
 The Local Service Hardcopy Device form page is displayed
11. Enter the “host name” and “TCP/IP address” of the camera (provided by the camera
manufacturer)
12. Click ”Test” to test IP communication (ping)

 The LUT form is displayed.
If new LUT files for one or more modalities are available on a removable medium, e.g.,
 floppy or CD, these files can be selected on the source drive and copied to the depend‐
ent LUT directories on the local host. Unnecessary LUT files can be removed from the
LUT directories on the local host.

 Usage of Correction LUT is displayed (default)
35. Modifications are necessary for additional image impressions only.
Only the topic CT image and SC image are relevant. Depending on the camera, specific
 entries have to be made. If nothing else is mentioned, set the CT image and SC image to
"CTLUT" and "2.80" for maximum density. The entries for BL image and SC image have to
be identical.

- 3.00 = default (depends on the max. possible value of the max. density of all im‐
age types)
37. Interpolation for printing:

1.2 Image quality and optical density check
1.2.1 General image quality information (LUT)

Only standard LUT files are loaded. For importing/removing additional/unnecessary LUT
files (see section ”Additional/unnecessary LUT files”) (LINK).
The image data from the modality to the HCC is transformed/corrected by the LUTs, once
in the modality and once in the HCC. As as result, the LUT has to be set on both sides:

There are two ways to check the LUT via the film density:
The modality is configured to a specific correction LUT and the HCC is configured to linear
curves. As an alternative, the modality is configured to a linear LUT and the HCC is config‐
ured to linear curves.

Since these two checks are equivalent; it is sufficient to check the “specified density”.

Checking the “HCC linearity” may be necessary if the desired density verification (1)
shows deviations and the HCC setting needs to be changed.
Even if the HCC service does not require a test image of the modality for the HCC setting,
it is easier to check this setting - and possibly further HCC corrections - with the HCC line‐
 arity verification (2) than with the desired density verification (1). Only the HCC linearity
LUT is effective. A graphical display would now show the current HCC behavior only. This
could be helpful for HCC Service.
1.2.2.2 Density values for CT

The density difference of the BL LUT (Ref. LUT) between steps 1, 2, and 3 has to be a min‐
imum density value of 0.02. Test image 3 (SMPTE image) can be used for visual verifica‐
tion (the 95% gray square has to be visible).
1.2.3 Reference films
1.2.3.1 Reference film

To create a reference film with the desired LUT adjustment, proceed as follows:

If new, released LUT files are available on a removable medium (e.g., floppy or CD). These
files may be selected on the source drive and copied to the dependent LUT directories on
the local system. Unnecessary LUT files may be removed from LUT directories on the local
system.
1.2.5.1 Importing LUT files
1. In Local Service Configuration platform, select LUT files

2. Select the (source) drive and the path where the appropriate LUT files are located
3. Select the destination LUT directory (correction LUT directory) which depends on the
image type (CTImage).
4. By pushing the copy button, the selected LUT file will be transferred to CTImage type.
5. Repeat this procedure using the appropriate LUT files for SC Images.

1.2.5.3 Real Size Scaling

This procedure should be performed after system installation and when the Hardcopy
Camera is ready to print. The real size behavior has to be performed with each connected
Hardcopy Camera.
1.2.5.4 Real size scaling verification
1. Load the test image (water image phantom) into the viewer (e.g. 20 cm water phan‐
tom, generated with the constancy procedure by CT).
2. Insert Crosshair (Viewing Card: Tools) and copy the image to the film sheet (“copy im‐
age to film sheet” button).
3. Select film sheet format 1 X 1.
4. Select "Original Image" in the filming card and print the image.

Sporadic problems occurred with MDM calibration. The films had different LUTs after
 MDM calibration and were out of tolerance. Difficulties to find a calibration which
matches for all film sizes together. After several retries this was successful. It is recom‐
mended not to use 14x17-film for MDM calibration, with 10x12 this was successful.
 The first film after film calibration has a higher optical density and can be out of toler‐
ance.
 Although the support for the Basic Color Print Management SOP Class is specified, color‐
printing is not useable.
 EN55011/EN55022 is class A (hospital use) only.

 Some pixels are cuted at right bottom edge of film size 10"x12" portrait.
The Linear LUT with Dmax 3,0 printed on 10"x12" film, was out of tolerance for Dmin,
 only. The measured value 0,16 was just below 0,17 lower border and is a minor prob‐
lem, because for image quality reason it is even good.
The Presentation LUT with Dmax 3,0 printed on 10"x12" and 11"x14" film, was out of tol‐
 erance for Dmin, only. The measured value 0,16 was just below 0,17 lower border and is
a minor problem, because for image quality reason it is even good.
The CTLUT with Dmax 2,8 printed on 8”x10”, 10"x12" and 11"x14" film, was out of toler‐
 ance for the lowest Dmin only. The measured value 0,15 resp. 0,16 is less than the mi‐
nus tolerance (= 0,17), but it’s a minor problem, because for image quality reason it is
even good.

The AUTO calibration process failed. The internal densitometer must be calibrated with
 the external densitometer values (24step image). After several calibration cycles the cali‐
bration have been passed.
If the printing queue of modality was stopped because of insufficient memory of cam‐
 era, the printing could be continued by pressing the CONTINUE button of FILM TASK
STATUS window.
 The measured density values have been converted via a conversion table as shown in
Drypix LITE service manual. This conversion table is not available in operation manual.
 FUJI recommends the X-Rite 301 densitometer with or without filter. For both cases the
conversion tables are available in service manual.
Additional information of modality: After changing a parameter in DICOM print node,

 the necessary application restart leads sometimes to the deactivation of „ Copy to film
sheet“ command, only a system reboot will solve the problem.

formance Statement. (Important for image mode modalities). Modalities which send “BI‐
 LINEAR” or “REPLICATE” get back a Status 0x0116 (Attribute out of Range). This can be
prevented with the printer setting “PROTOCOL -> Attribute Value Out of Range (0116H
Warning)” configured to “0:not indicate” (See 7.6). The Magnification Type “CUBIC” is
used as default.
 10 associations are specified to work at one time. The 11th association is canceled with
an A-ABORT. An A-ASSOCIATE-RJ was expected due to DICOM.

the camera must be configured twice in the local service tool: One camera configuration

 For color images, more contrast in black and white areas is attainable if the color bright‐

After sending a print job with a film size which is not inserted in the camera trays, no
 warning message appears in printer status report. The print job is stored in camera and
will be printed after the right film size was inserted.
 Horizontal line structure visible in technical gray field image, because of strong black and
white contrast changes printed with thermal print head.
 For accurate measurement of UPT-51xBL films a X-Rite 301X densitometer with 301-34-
SO special conversion optics has to be used.
 For magnification type cubic there is no value for smoothing type supported, printouts
with different values have the same impression - value 0 is working fine.
There are 3 gamma curves available for Siemens Healthcare: FLC300N, AX300N and
LIN_300N: The selection of the gamma curve is possible by setting the called AE title to
 UPDF550_G6, UPDF550_G7 or UPDF550: Called AE UPDF550_G6 for FLC uses gamma ta‐
ble 6 with FLC300N LUT. Called AE UPDF550_G7 for AX uses gamma table 7 with
AX300N LUT. Called AE UPDF550 for linear uses gamma table 8 with LIN_300N LUT (de‐
fault).

 The setting of sharpness as a gamma curve parameter is “OFF” by default, but it can be
increased up to 14 (edge enhancement).
