6 2 Installation and Configuration

2.1 General Remarks

This chapter describes installation of the DICOM Attribute Configurator.

2.1.1 Abbreviations

DAC DICOM Attribute Configurator

AET Application Entity Title (DICOM Terminology)
DICOM Digital Image Communications in Medicine
EBE Explicit Big Indian (DICOM Terminology)
ELE Explicit Little Indian (DICOM Terminology)
ILE Implicit Little Indian (DICOM Terminology)
SCU Service Class User (DICOM Terminology)
SCP Service Class Provider (DICOM Terminology)
XML Extended Markup Language

2.1.2 Operation Principle of the DAC

The DICOM Attribute Configurator is located between two DICOM devices, e.g. a modality
and a printer or a HIS/RIS system and a modality.
On one side it acts as an SCU, on the other side as an SCP. It receives all DICOM messages,
examines and modifies them and sends them to the addressed receiver.
An XML file describes all modifications. The configurator operates bi-directionally.

2.1.3 What to do if the System SW or the DAC SW was reloaded

n For FLUOROSPOT Compact based systems:
If the System SW must be reloaded (e.g. due to an update of the system SW), the li‐
cense for the DAC is kept, since it is part of the backup/restore.
- Install the SW update per the Update Instructions.
- Check whether the DAC license is present, see the FL-C SSW <Configuration> <Li‐
cense>.
- For Aristos Systems:
see ( Syngo Restore and DAC License / Page 24).
- Reinstall the DAC SW as described in ( Installation of the DICOM Attribute Configu‐
rator / Page 11).
n Restore the DAC configuration, see ( Backup and Restore / Page 22).
n Perform a check of HIS/RIS and network nodes, see ( Checks / Page 23).

8 2 Installation and Configuration

2.2 Preparation
To ensure smooth installation and configuration procedures, all data of the DICOM or
HIS/RIS node to be configured should be read out first:
n For FLUOROSPOT Compact based systems, start local service und select:
- FL-C Service > Configuration > DICOM Nodes Settings
n For Axiom Aristos systems, read out the data as follows:
- select > Options > Service > Local Service > Configuration > Network Nodes or
HIS/RIS
Make a note of the network addresses of the components involved:
- IP Address
- Port No.
- AE Title
If the DAC has to be deactivated, it is helpful to record the original configurations of the
nodes to be modified.

Logical Host Name IP Address AE Title / DICOM Port Number

Name / Alias AET
