The Covid-19 pandemic is the event of the spread of a new type of disease that attacks
the respiratory system in humans, this disease is known as Corona Virus, or usually known as
Covid-19. The Covid-19 outbreak was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei, China on
December 31, 2019, and was designated a pandemic by the World Health Organization
(WHO) on March 11, 2020. It was designated a pandemic by WHO because the Covid-19
virus has began to enter several other big countries, such as America, Australia, and even
Indonesia.
In Indonesia itself, there have been many impacts, almost all sectors have been
adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, such as in the sports sector, many sports weeks
have been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, the education sector was also
affected, at the beginning of the pandemic all schools in Indonesia were closed due to
reducing the number of Covid-19 sufferers. But as time goes on, the pandemic in Indonesia is
getting more and more rampant, in the education sector, for example, experiencing a very big
change, the education system in Indonesia is carried out 100% online.
Apart from the education sector, there are other sectors that have had a major impact
during the pandemic and post-pandemic. The Tourism and Hospitality Industry Sector also
experienced an impact during the Covid-19 pandemic. In the field of tourism, there are many
tours that are closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, besides the number of tourists who come
to tourism is becoming less and less interested, because this is a lot of tourist attractions that
have been damaged because there is no maximum care anymore. Many tours also went
bankrupt due to the absence of visitors for a long period of time during the Covid-19
pandemic.
Not only in the field of tourism, in the hospitality sector also experienced a big impact
during the pandemic and post-pandemic. During the pandemic, a lot of hotels, homestays,
and other lodging places were closed, this was because during the pandemic the tourists who
came were reduced and during a pandemic all types of lodging were required to be closed by
the government. However, there are also many lodging places in Indonesia that are used as
temporary residences for Covid-19 sufferers because at that time many hospitals experienced
a surge in patients, so they had to be allocated to lodging places such as hotels. Because the
inn or hotel is closed or used as a place to stay for Covid-19 sufferers, many hotels have gone
bankrupt and there are few tourists staying.
Even the hospitality sector continues to experience impacts after the pandemic period
has subsided, there are still hotels that are still empty of tourists, both from local tourists and
foreign tourists. Therefore, like it or not, hoteliers must rack their brains on how to keep their
business running. The trick is to change business strategy through various innovations. Such
as presenting new services or products that can be useful for visitors, while maximizing
existing digital technology, such as promoting hotels and all their facilities through social
media such as Instagram, Twitter, and so on. In addition, hoteliers can also provide limited
meeting options or collaborate with wedding organizers to hold weddings in the midst of a
pandemic, in accordance with health protocols. In addition, hotel industry players can also
provide other services needed by visitors/tourists, such as catering or even paid yoga classes
as one of the facilities needed during a pandemic.
