Basic Productivity Lesson Idea

Lesson Idea Name: This Little Artist Grade Level/Content Area: Kindergarten Visual Art

Content Standard Addressed: VAK.CR.2 Create works of art based on selected themes

ISTE Technology Standard Addressed:

1.1 Empowered Learner

What would you like students to know and be able to do by the end of this lesson: I would
like my students to know how to generate a story using images. I want the students to be able to
use my ebook example to create their own with guided assistance.

What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea? The students' learning goal for this lesson
idea is to understand how to communicate through images, and use a technology tool to do so.
The students are learning to express themselves through pictures they have drawn themselves.

Selected Basic Productivity Tool- Office 365 PowerPoint

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by
the teacher's

direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly practice
based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning

and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates the
learning as

the students direct their own learning processes.

X Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This

objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting
the project

to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation:

I plan to use this tool to create a quick slideshow, so my students are able to see an
ebook example. My ebook example shows them my expectations, and gives them a guide to
follow. The activity will be introduced during creative time, and I will start off by explaining the
importance of creative expression. I will make students aware of their goals by giving them
progress points. The progress points will let them know if they are still on track or if they will
need some extra assistance. Students will be able to utilize the technology I provided as their
own self reminders of what their ebook should look like. As the teacher, I will circulate through
the classroom and pay close attention to make sure everyone is following the criteria. Feedback
will be provided to students at the end of creative periods based on what the teacher sees
throughout the time given. I will conclude this lesson by reviewing what steps were completed
that day and asking the students if they feel comfortable with the work they have done so far.

Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts?
This technology can be used to get students actively involved in authentic tasks and
contexts, because they are actively learning. There will be Co-use/Co-engagement especially
when it is time for the students to create a product of their own. There are more topics than the
ones discussed in this lesson, so this lesson can allow for exploration activities into other topics.
As a class we will be able to collaborate and focus on learning goals.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection

These activities and the technology tools I selected support and enhance the learning
experience through action and expression. This slideshow is giving them a diverse way to show
their understanding and skill development. The activities I created will impact student learning
through prompt feedback, active learning, and good practice. I look forward to implementing the
technology into this learning experience.

Reflecting on enhanced learning

This activity will impact student learning by shining a light on the importance of creating works of
art and storytelling through images. Students deserve to be able to create and express
themselves artistically, but they need to know how to appropriately use the tools needed. This
lesson idea can prevent students from neglecting technology, which may occur due to the lack
of knowledge.
