Instructions: answer the review questions at the end of the file "Control circuits
and diagrams". The pdf File is attached at file section.
1. Why are wiring connections and terminal markings useful to the electrician?
In these cases, for the electricians is valuable all these things since it
is nearly incomprehensible to keep in mind each wire when reassembly is required within
the connections and circuits.
2. What is the purpose of a manual start switch?
The purpose of this manual start switch is that they are used for starting and protecting small
motors rated at 1 horsepower or less where undervoltage protection is not needed.

3. Describe a ladder diagram.

A ladder diagram is a simple elementary diagram of a switch or other device in a completed
circuit. This diagram gives the necessary information for easily following the operation of the
various devices in the circuit.

4. What is a maintained contact pilot device?

This type of pilot device is important to maintain the contacts, this one help to develop a process
of piloting and is one that will automatically operate without the attention of an operator.

5. What is the difference between a two-wire and a three-wire control system?

The difference between these two is that usually a two-wire is a ladder-connected on-off switch
manually operated. A three-wire is used to indicate a device is on or off.

6. What does de-energized mean with a relay?

The de-energized with a relay when it occurs a de-energized means that is no power to the coil.

7. What is meant by undervoltage protection?

In this case the mean by under-voltage protection is that have a low voltage protection. The
starter will drop out when there is a voltage failure but will not pick up automatically when voltage
returns.

8. What is a jumper used for?

A jumper in a simple way is used to cause a short circuit or temporarily make a circuit for testing.

9. How high can momentary transient rms current go?

The highest that a momentary transient rms current go is up to 11 times the current when
starting.

10. What is locked rotor current?

A locked rotor current in a basic way is a locked rotor of current which indicates that the motor is
running at speed and with normally, or locked in.

11. What is a thermal protector?

A thermal protector in is kind of sensitive device that is in charge to heat and internally
embedded in fractional horsepower motors and compressors. They can be reset manually or
automatically.

12. Why are fuses needed in control circuits?

The fuses needed in control circuits to prevent overheating of motors and ruining the insulation
and failures.

13. What are manual starting switches designed for?

These types of manuals starting switches are designed for on-off and jogging.

14. What type of information does a line diagram provide?

A line diagram provides information of the location of the electrical devices in a circuit.

15. What is a not her name for a line diagram?

It’s simple ladder diagram.

16. What does L1 stand for in a diagram?

The L1 stand for contact point for one of the power sources lines.

17. What does the term two-wire mean?

The term two-wire mean that is a simple circuit using 2-wires from the power source.

18. Why is a resistor built into the relay?

A resistor is built into the relay to guard against a short circuit when open contact is made.

19. What do CR1 and CR2 mean?

These ones help to understand more the circuit, and these ones (CR1 and CR2) indicate low coil
current relays in this circuit.

20. What is the difference between a line drawing and a wiring diagram?
The difference between these two is that a wiring drawing makes it easier to follow the operating
sequence of a relay in a circuit. A line drawing gives the necessary information for easily
following the flow of current. A schematic shows all the electronic parts and their locations in a
circuit.
