Directions: Answer the following:

1. A responsive curriculum adapts itself to the needs of a dynamic community. How did the Department of
Education do this to respond to the Covid19 crisis?

This Pandemic is unexpected and no one ever wish this to happen. Our DepEd on the other hand also got
a bit surprised and seems not totally prepared on this pandemic. They had to shut down school for a moment
and think of other alternatives until they come up with modular distance learning. But they did their best to
create a more effective way of learning aside from modules like the DepEd Tv wherein children can watch an
educational television channel provides an avenue to accommodate the different learning styles of learners.
Still, DepEd are trying to strengthen the online learning while we are still on pandemic.

2. Among the various curriculum delivery modes, which will be most effective in your particular setting in times
of crisis? Why?

For me in this time of pandemic, the online distance learning will be the most effective. Base on my
observation, children studying in public elementary schools having a Modular Distance Learning are receiving
inefficient knowledge. Compare to the online learning, the teacher will be able to guide and explain to their
students their everyday lesson. In addition, children have an opportunity to ask their teacher if they have
something that is not clear on their subject. Children in modular distance learning was also guided with their
parents, however not all parents are having their full attention on their children.

3. What does MELCS stand for? Why did DepEd come up with it?

Most Essential Learning Competencies- According to its guidelines, the MELCs is part of the department’s
response to develop resilient education systems, especially during emergencies and will enable DepEd to
focus instruction on the “most essential and indispensable” competencies.

4. Do we need to have a crisis to think of decongesting curriculum for greater focus on the most essential?
Should this happen only in times of pandemic like Covid19?

Decongesting our curriculum can be applied even without pandemic. Since we are now in K to 12, we have
an additional 2 years to spread the curriculum. Decongesting our curriculum will help our students give more
time on a specific lesson or they can focus more on their lesson. They can avoid cramming and will learn more
if they have an enough time to absorb and can give more attention on something.
