TITLE: Class A Power Amplifier

AIM: To simulate Class A power amplifier. To determine the efficiency of Class A
Power Amplifier.
OUTCOME: Student will be able to understand working and design of BJT power
amplifier

Use simulation software (LTspice/any other).

Go through the following steps for performing the experiment:

Procedure:

1. Place the component in the schematic window from component library

provided.
2. Connect the components using wire tool as per the circuit diagram.
3. Set the desired values of the component by editing the
properties of that component.
4. Save the file and run the DC analysis without sweep.
5. Measure the value of VCEQ and ICQ.
6. Observe the waveforms and measure the AC peak-to-peak value of
voltage/ current.
7. Save the file and run the time domain analysis.
8. Observe the results and note down the readings.
9. Calculate AC and DC powers and hence the efficiency of Class A Power
amplifier.
10. Attach images of the circuit diagram, output waveforms. Observe the
results and note down the readings.

Conclusion:

The Class A amplifier is the simplest form of power amplifier that uses a single switching
transistor in the standard common emitter circuit configuration to produce an inverted output. The
output signal varies for a full 360° of the input signals. This requires the Q -point to be biased at a
level so that at least half the signal swing of the output may vary up and down without going to a
high enough voltage to be limited by the supply voltage level or too low to approach the lower
supply level. Class A power amplifiers have a limited efficiency up-to 25%.
