A speech to peers about the advantages and disadvantages of

different types of school

Hi, everyone! I’m here to talk about the schooling. Since the early 21 st
century, more and more people have been interested in education. So,
it is important to know the different types of school, and understand
their advantages and disadvantages. Basically, there are two main types
of school: private school and public school. Nowadays, democratic
schools, technologically sophisticated schools and virtual schools are
also available.

First of all, private schools offer a wide range of after-school activities

such as music club, book club and sports club, where students have an
opportunity to learn new things, socialize and interact with new people.
There are many open areas and plenty of space where students can
hang out, amuse and play games. Secondly, public schools also have
diverse course options and access to arts, music and sports although it
has limitations. Thirdly, technology-integrated schools provide the
students with an opportunity to learn the lessons and to take notes on
computers, desktops, or iPads instead of pens and papers. Finally,
virtual schools offer flexibility and customization. Students can study
anywhere and anytime as long as they have a stable connection.

Here are several advantages of private schools. The students can

concentrate on their studies because the number of students in a class
is quite small. A lot of optional subjects are available. That means
students can pursue their passion and goals. For example, if a student is
passionate about music, the school will provide specialized teaching
that prepares them for their future career or higher education in that
field. What’s more, wider access to better books, supplies and learning
materials! Many private schools train the students to improve their
language skills since the early school years. Learning a foreign language
through playing and singing nursery rhymes adds to the language
immersion. Public schools are universal. They are funded by the
government. That means they are affordable to everyone including the
students from low-income family. The teachers are also well-trained.

There are several downsides to consider, too. Private schools charge a

fee for tuitions. So, the cost of attending a private school is higher than
attending a public school. Having a lot of optional subjects encourages
the students’ laziness and students might take education with little
seriousness. Tons of extracurricular activities might be overwhelming
for students. Since private schools don’t follow national curriculum that
the government sets forth, education programs might be disorganized
and unsystematic. In public schools, class sizes are usually bigger and a
lot of students are crammed in one class. That results in less
concentration on studies and less attention to lectures. Access to class
materials and technology is limited. Most textbooks are often outdated
and so formal that it fails to impress and inspire the learners.
However, every type of schools helps a student in getting confident and
proficient in a particular skill from different unique approaches.
Whether a student attends a private school or a public one, it’s
important for them to work hard so that they will achieve their
academic goals. These different types of schools play a crucial role in
every country.
Thank you so much for your time!
