Date:19.08.2019 & Time: 09.00AM to 10.30AM Max. : 50 Marks
Note:

 Write the examination using blue or black pen

 Draw neat sketch with pencil (if necessary)
 Use tables or charts (if necessary)
 Answer all questions
Part A (5x2=10 marks)

Answer All Questions

1. Define the kinematic velocity of Fluid (CO1)

2. Define Pascals Law (CO1)

3. List the conditions needed for the floating body to be remaining in unstable and neutral Equilibrium (CO1)

4. list the application of continuity equation (CO2)

5. Explain the basic assumptions made in deriving Bernoulis theorem (CO2)

Part B

Answer All Questions. Each questions carries 10 Marks

6. A pipe contains carbon tetrachloride of specific gravity 1.5294 under a pressure of 103kN/m 2 and pipe B
contains oil of specific gravity 0.80. if the pressure in the pipe B is 171.6 KN/m 2 and the manometric fluid is
mercury. Find the difference between the levels of mercury. (CO1)

7. The space between two squares parallel plates I filled with oil. Each side of the plate is 75cm. the thickness of
the oil film is 10mm. The upper plate which moves at 3m/s requires a force of 100N to maintain the speed.
Determine

i) the dynamic viscosity of oil

ii) The kinematic viscosity of the oil, if the specific gravity of oil is 0.9 (CO1).

8. Describe velocity potential function in detail (CO2)

Part C

Answer All Questions. Each questions carries 10 Marks

9. Water flows through a pipe AB of diameter 50mm which is in the series with pipe BC of diameter 75mm in
which the velocity is 2m/s. At C is the pipe forks and one branch CD is of unknown diameter such that the
velocity is 1.5m/s. the other branch CE is of diameter 25mm and the condition are such that the discharge in the
pipe BC divides so that the discharge in the pipe CD is equal to two times of discharge in CE. Calculate i) the
discharge in pipe AB and CD ii) the velocity in the pipe AB and CE and iii) the diameter of pipe CD. (CO2)
