RUNNING BOWLINE KNOT-is a valuable way of tying a type of noose which will not bind and
can be slid undone easily. In boating it is recommended for use when retrieving rigging or lumber
which has fallen overboard and in climbing for retrieving objects in places such as crevasses.

5.BOWLINE ON A BIGHT KNOT- It is a variation of the bowline knot that looks similar but is
made with a single strand of rope, makes a secure loop in the middle of a piece of rope. It does not

slip or bind.

by stage hands, Rescue operations and making arm or wrist shackles.

rope. This knot can serve as a makeshift Bosun's chair.

8.SHEEP SHANK KNOT- is a simple knot useful for temporarily shortening a rope. It is made by
making a double loop in the rope and tying a half hitch at each end. It can be used to strengthen a rope

at its weak point by placing the weak part in the middle between the two loops.

9.DOUBLE OVERHAND KNOT- is a beefier version of a regular overhand knot. It works well as a
stopper, and can also be used to secure the end of the rope after tying another knot.
10.CRABBER’S EYE KNOT- Also called the Crossed Running Knot. When tied loosely, the standing
part can be pulled and the knot slid to the required position: a pull on the end then locks it.

Hitch or to substitute for a broken slider on a guyline.

12.TOM’S FOOL KNOT- is sometimes considered as a Handcuff Knot but is somewhat inferior for
this purpose to the knot which usually bears that name. It is a good knot with which to commence a
slightly fancy Sheepshank.
13.MASTHEAD KNOT- used for jury rigging a temporary mast on a sailboat or ship after the
original one has been lost. The knot is placed at the top of a new mast with the mast projecting
through the center of the knot.

4.CLOVE HITCH- it is often considered one of the most important knots. Securing lines running
along a series of posts, belaying, starting lashing and weak binding.

5.TIMBER HITCH- It is used for securing the end of a rope to a log or spar when towing and lifting.

6.TIMBER HITCH WITH HALF HITCH- is similar to timber hitch, except that it has a half hitch
added to it. The half hitch is placed further away from the timber hitch as needed in order to steady
the end of the log or timber when being towed.
