Proposed Improvement Program

I Title of Proposed Project: PROJECT MBFW (Mother-Baby Friendly Workplace)

II Objective:

 To promote the practice of breastfeeding

 To protect women and provide them safe and healthy working conditions.

III Target Output

 To set up lactation room/area to strengthen, sustain, and enhance to protect women and
provide them safe and healthy working conditions.

IV Procedure:

Pursuant to RA no. 10028 also known as the Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009,
Ibabang Iyam Elementary School will provide Lactation Room for breastfeeding teaching and non-
teaching personnel as well as for clients for the next school year. This is to promote the practice of
breastfeeding and to protect women and provide them safe and healthy working conditions.

Breastfeeding is duly recognized to benefits the health of infants, mother-child bonding and the
public health services system, among other positive longer-term implications for society as a whole.
Ibabang Iyam Lactation Room/Area shall be established in private, comfortable and clean spaces
with wash area and milk storage facilities.
Lactation room shall conform to the following requirements of RA 10028:
• Well lighted and clean area;
• Table and chairs with backrest spacious enough for at least 2-3 mothers at the same time;
• Easily accessible lavatory nearby for hand washing;
• Hand/paper towels;
• Electric fan/air-conditioner;
• Personal refrigerator solely for expressed breast milk storage;
• Electrical Outlets in case electronic breast pump is available;
• Clean, well ventilated, comfortable and free from contaminants and hazardous substances;
• Clock; and
• Accessible to breastfeeding women.

The said project will a collaborative work of school GAD Focal Person and School Health
Coordinator. Since majority of the teaching/non-teaching personnel and our clients (parents) are mother,
this project will provide a mother-baby environment.
