In giving awareness about the current and relevant information of the latest issues and updates about local, national and global news, journalists write stories to inform, to entertain, to give commentary and to engage the readers in recent concerns and public information. The content of the articles is not only limited to the dissemination of information but also to report factual events using different types of journalistic writing. It can be in the type of news report, opinion article, feature article and sports news article. Let us have a review. Journalistic Writing is a style of writing used to provide information to people in the form of news, opinion, feature, and sports. In creating different types of journalistic article, you must consider the factual information of the current events and its appeal to a particular reader. Types of Journalistic Writing a. News Report is a type of journalistic writing that can be in oral or written report of an event. It should be factual, truthful, accurate and fair. News report begins with an introduction called lead. Lead can be presented through a phrase, word, clause, or in simple sentence. There are different kind of lead- what, who, where, when, and how. b. In giving commentary and personal stand of the publisher or editor, opinion article is presented. The opinion article should be concise, factual and presented in logical manner the significant issues of the concern. c. Main function of writing a feature article is to entertain. Same with other article, it should be factual, however, it focuses to human interest or entertainment. d. Sports News Article is a form of writing pertaining to sports topics and games. It is in the structure of action story but with greater freedom of style of writing.

what is happening here and abroad. Editorial – This tells the writer’s wise opinion about a topic. It tries to influence public opinion. It suggests solution/s to the present problem Feature – This is a detailed report of a topic of interest. It is published in newspapers and magazines. Sports News Articles – is a form writing that reports on matters pertaining to sporting topics and competitions. It typically covers information on highlights of the game, athletes, persons or teams involved, the type of sport and scores of final outcomes of the game.
