SAGGING SPEED & PRESSURE CHECKS ON IHI (MARK II) CRANES

1. Sagging speed of Luffing motion:

- Bring the crane boom to the lower limit at 25 degree
- Move the luffing joystick lever to minimum position so that the brake just opens
- Measure the luffing drum rotation speed
- Max. permitted sagging speed is 20 seconds per 1 turn

2. Sagging speed of Hoisting motion:

- At the same of luffing angle and with empty hiook, fully open the hoisting brake
adjusting nut
- Stop the crane and lift the brake band fully up
- Measure the hoisting drum rotation speed, i.e. measure the time it takes for the
drum to rotate 90 degrees
- Max. permitted sagging speed is 3 min per 90 degree rotation
( Note: A new hoist motor sagging speed is approx. 6 minutes / 90 degree)

3. Max pressure check luffing:

- Bring the crane boom to about 45 degree
- Fully tighten the luffing brake until the drum is fully blocked
(if brake system is using solenoid valve, please disconnect power to solenoid)
- Move the luffing joystick lever fully down
- Measure the luffing pressure ____ Bar?
(it should be 180 bar. If not , then adjust the pressure relieve relief valve)

4. Max pressure check hoisting:

- Fully tighten the hoisting brake the drum is fully blocked
(if brake system is using solenoid valve, please disconnect power to solenoid)
- Move the hoisting joystick lever fully down
- Measure the hoisting pressure ____ Bar?
(it should be 180 bar. If not , then adjust the pressure relieve relief valve)

5. Max pressure check slewing:

- Fully tighten the slewing brake until the drum is fully blocked
- Move the slewing joystick lever to left & right
- Measure the slewing pressure ____ Bar?
(Should be 160 bar,if not adjust the relief valve at the control valve block.

Remark :
All pressures mentioned above (No-3 & 4) are for reference only. Please refer to the hydraulic
diagram (finished plan) on board for actual pressure settings.
Sagging Speed Test [Hoisting]
1. Find the shuttle valve for hoisting brake. 2. Loosen the lock nut and close the shuttle valve.

3. Open the hose at the brake cylinder side. 4. Connect hand pump to opened hose.

6. Mark 2 points to represent 90°on the band. 6. Open the brake by hand pump. [~50 bar]

7. Make sure the brake is loose by hand. 8. Measure the sagging speed. [ 90° ]

Sagging Speed Test [Luffing]

1. Mark 2 points on brake band and drum. 2. Start the crane and move boom to 25°

3. Slightly move the luffing joystick up.

4. Until the boom starts dropping. 5. Measure the sagging speed. [ 1 turn ].
