NARRATIVE REPORT
SCHOOL-BASED INSET
The two-day School-Based Inset on October 24-25 was done successfully. During the first day,
topics on the significance of teaching reading, steps in teaching reading , the use of Higher order
thinking skills, and the different strategies were discussed. Since the result of the Group Screening and
the individualized assessment in the recently conducted Phil-IRRI assessment, it was very alarming to
note that a large number of pupils fall under frustration level. Thus , a reading intervention program was
discussed on how to improve the reading abilities of the learners. A lot of questions were raised on how
to conduct the reading intervention effectively in their own classes.

There were also group activities on how to construct effective questions to develop the pupils
critical thinking. After which, was the presentation of the group concerted output for critiquing.

On the next day, was the training workshop on the reading materials of the pupils to be used in
the conduct of the reading intervention. Every adviser made various reading materials and a word tree
that will help motivate the pupils to learn. They were provided adequate materials to be used in designing
a material.

Discussions on the proper implementation of the program was done with the inspirational words
of the school head. Some reading materials like short stories, basic dolch sight words, cvc etc was also
presented to them so that each adviser has its own reading materials to be used.

After all the activities conducted, a closing ceremony was done to give merits to the efforts of the
teachers by giving of certificates of participation and recognition to the facilitator.
