Chapter I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

Introduction

In the recent years, one of the most significant concerns that

we face is the COVID-19. The widespread of this virus created public health

and economic crisis that has a deep impact on the way we perceive our world

and our everyday lives (Arriaga, 2020). This abruptly requires scientists

and researchers to produce substances to stimulate antibodies and provide

immunity against corona virus. While waiting for successful and effective

vaccines, several issues have arisen which include the sudden change of

education system. According to UNESCO, Covid-19 Pandemic has disrupted

education in over 15o countries and has affected 1.5 billion students.

Students are forced out to school and obliged to cope up with Distance

Learning System. Distance Education is a learning system in which

instructors and students are separated in time and space (Keegan, 2002). On

the last school year, students used modular, online, and blended learning

which made them encountered struggles as they adapt with the alternative

education system.

When the face-to-face classes was suspended because of the Covid-

19 outbreak, the Department of Education here in the Philippines has

responded by developing basic continuity plan, which laid groundwork for

the implementation of distance learning. However, the Alliance of Concerned

Teachers (ACT) claimed that the first full year under distance learning did

not turn out to be a resounding success and claimed that challenges

remained unsolved. Due to this, ACT suggested to the office of President to

move forward and plan for better ways to cope and strive for quality

education despite grueling circumstances. They called for Duterte

Government and education officials to formulate a strategy for the gradual

reopening of classes for the situation clearly implies that students would

learn more and better under face to face set-ups. According to Unicef

Philippines Education Chief Isy Faingold, there are very challenging time

for the world because of pandemic but it is also important that this is

also a crisis in the education system and the longer the school closure,

the more severe the negative effects can be. However, there is a need for

every students to get vaccinated to keep their good health and safety.

In the previous research, it has seen that researcher doesn’t discussed

about the perception of students to the certain issue of anti covid-19

vaccination and their percentage of agreement and disagreement. Many of the

research study are mainly focused on the effects of distance learning

system on academic performance of students and factors affecting

individuals having fear of having anti covid-19 vaccination. But this

research will seek to find the different perceptions of the Grade 12

students currently studying in Dipaculao National High School regarding the

need of getting covid-19 vaccination for the opening of classes this school

year.

There is a proof of urgency for this research to be conducted as the

government already started opening limited face-to-face classes in several

schools and planned all schools to be open as well as of year 2022.

Interconnected to this, students are persuade to unite with the

government’s vaccination program. As a result of this, many students

already participated as they want face-to-face classes but numerous

students also do not agree of getting vaccinated despite of wanting their

school to reopens.

This study aims to determine and analyze the perception of Grade 12

students in Dipaculao National High School upon the Covid-19 vaccination

before the opening of classes with the return of face to face classes

approach. It will also aim to identify the common concerns of teachers,

parents, and students in the return of face to face classes in the

education system. Moreover, this study will serve as foundation for

agreement or disagreement of Grade 12 students to get vaccinated to resume

face-to-face classes.

classes. It tried to answer the following questions:

1. How do the demographic profile of the respondent describe in terms of:

1.1 age

1.2 sex

1.3 indigency

2. What are the different perceptions of Grade 12 students regarding return

of face-to-face classes approach?

Significance of the Study

The results of the study will merit the following:

• Students

perception of students about Covid-19 vaccination to resume face-to-face

classes and will help them to create plans and strategies for better school

system on next year school opening.

• Future Researchers

This study will serve as their basis to the related research topic that

Scope and Delimitations of the study

This study focused only on the perceptions of students about covid-19

vaccination as requirement for the next year face to face classes. The

Grade 12 students of Dipaculao National High School enrolled in the school

Year 2021-2022 were the respondents of the study. This study will use

descriptive research design. The data will be gathered through survey

METHODS OF RESEARCH

This chapters presents the research method, respondents, and

sampling procedure, the research instrument, data gathering processes, and

the statistical treatment that will be used to arrive at reliable results

of the study.

Research Methodology

The researchers will employ the quantitative method of research.

Research Locale

The researchers will conduct this study at Dipaculao National

High School located in Brgy. Mucdol, Dipaculao, Aurora. This school started

to have face-to-face classes within the month of February. Many students

from Dipaculao National High School are already vaccinated due to the

announcement of reopening of classes. However, there are individuals that

do not agree on vaccination as a vital requirement. This is why the

researcher choose the students from this school as their respondents.

Respondents and Sampling Method

The respondents of this study are 50 Grade 12 students of

Dipaculao National High School residing at the municipality of Dipaculao.

The researchers will employ probability sampling specifically

simple random sampling. It is a subset of individuals chosen from larger

set in which a subset of individuals are chosen from a lager set in which

subset of individuals are chosen randomly, all with the same probability.

In srs, each subset of k individuals has the same probability of being

chosen for the sample of any other subsets of k individuals.

Data Collection Procedure

The researchers will provide printed questionnaires to gather

data. It will be distributed after being allowed by Senior High School

Teachers and Grade 12 students. The questionnaire that the researchers will

give includes all the questions needed for the accomplishment of this

study.

After the respondents answered the questionnaire, the researcher

will be able to come up with the results by computing the data gathered

from 50 Gradec 12 students.
