welcoming remarks of Ms. Leila P.
Areola, BLD Director, who
emphasized the importance of ICT
integration in 21st century
teaching. According to her, the
development of tools and
technology in teaching has
immense contribution in the
innovation of teaching strategies.
Also, this served as an
opportunity, not only to the
learners but also to the teachers,
to learn more.

Moreover, the speaker put

emphasis on the support of the
education department, both
monetary and internet
connectivity assistance, so
teachers can serve the learners

9:15 AM 10:00 AM Session 1: Techniques in Learning

Delivery Styles in Conducting
Virtual Classes
Speaker: Anna Marlaine V.
Litonjua

In this session, we were reminded

how amazing is the ability of the
teachers to adapt to changes –
switching from face-to-face
classroom setup to virtual
teaching.

With these changes at hand, it is

inevitable that teachers
encountered problems while
conducting online classes. Her
discussion revolved around the
things a teacher must
contemplate in designing his/her
learning materials. We were
provided with pointers to
consider like the dos and don’ts in
creating slides, and the
significance of the teacher’s voice
in attention engagement.

On the latter part of the session,

the speaker discussed it is
important that the approach in
teaching is student-centered.
Teachers may do so in class by
maximizing PPT and Google slides

in creating games and giving the

learners more opportunity to
speak.

10:00 AM 11:00 AM Session 2: Radio-based

Instruction: Reaching Far-flung
Areas
Speaker: Jann Wilbur Gale

In this session, we learned that

the radio plays a big part in
distance learning.

The speaker discussed how the

radio, a then technology used for
tuning in news and playing music,
is now a tool in reaching learners
in areas where internet
connectivity is poor. Even without
internet connection, learning is
feasible with the help of radio
frequency present in a two-way
radio. Audio lessons and learning
modules, activity sheets and
books, enables teachers to discuss
the lesson and guide the learners
in doing the activities.

In this session, the speaker

discussed the importance of para-
teachers as learning partners in
reaching out to students who are
under Alternative Delivery
Education.

Para-teachers work hand in hand

with the teacher to educate
learners having difficulty in
learning, and without available
guardian to provide instructional
support. Besides, the speaker
emphasized that students should
be provided with flexible learning
options. This will help them in
studying despite unfavorable
circumstances.

The bottom line is the duties of

teachers and para-teachers in
assuring the quality of education
in alternative learning program
weighs the same.
