obstruct blood flow and cause heart attacks

or strokes.
Symptoms:
-trouble with walking, speaking, or seeing
-headache
-paralysis or numbness on one side of body

Peripheral Vascular Disease

This is similar to almost any other disease
from the circulatory system. In PAD, fatty
deposits build up in the inner linings of the
artery walls. These blockages restrict blood
circulation, mainly in arteries leading to the
kidneys, stomach, arms, legs and feet. In its
early stages a common symptom is
cramping or fatigue in the legs and buttocks
during activity. Such cramping subsides
when the person stands still. This is called
"intermittent claudication." People with
PAD often have fatty buildup in the arteries
of the heart and brain. Because of this
association, most people with PAD have a
higher risk of death from heart attack and
stroke.
Symptoms:
-Patients rarely show symptoms
-Leg Pain

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

This disease happens when large blood
vessel that supplies blood to the abdomen,
pelvis, and legs becomes abnormally large
or balloons outward. It happens slowly over
a period of years.
Symptoms:
-Abdominal mass
-Abdominal rigidity
-Anxiety
-Clammy skin
-Nausea and vomiting
-Pain in the abdomen or back -- severe,
sudden, persistent, or constant. The pain
may radiate to groin, buttocks, or legs.
-Pulsating sensation in the abdomen
-Rapid heart rate when rising to a standing
position

-Shock

Emphysema:
This is a chronic lung disease. The affects
are in the air sacs in the lungs (alveoli).
There is no cure for this disease, but
treatments include inhalers, or inhaled
steroids. Sometimes, surgery is a necessity.
It is proven that smoking and second hand
smoke is the main cause.
SYMPTOMS
-Fatigue
-Shortness of Breath
-Coughing
-Weight Loss
-Depression

advance reading and thank you for sharing this to
us.” Lung Cancer:
This disease is an abnormal, continual
multiplying of cells that has possible results
of lumps, masses, or tumors beginning in
the lining of the bronchi (large airways),
and possibly other areas of the respiratory
system. As the tumor grows, it may or may
not cause a cough. Smoking, including
secondhand smoke, is the leading cause of
lung cancer.
SYMPTOMS
-constant chest pain
-shortness of breath
-wheezing
-recurring lung infections
-bloody or rust-colored sputum
-hoarseness
-swelling of the neck and face
-pain and weakness in the shoulder arm, or
hand
-unexplained fever.

Chronic Bonchitis:
This is a long-term inflamation of the
bronchi (large airways), while symptoms
include coughing for long periods of time.
Just like emphysema, there is no cure for
this disease, but treatments include inhalers,

“That’s right these pictures depict the negative

ways of living like smoking, polluting the
environment, eating unhealthy food, drinking
liquor and sleep deprivation. That leads to
diseases that we have discuss earlier. One’s
lifestyle has a significant impact on the body as it
can either strengthen or weaken the systems in “It can be change if we let them know what
the body specially the respiratory and circulatory can happen to them and let them realize that
system.” they need to pay attention on well-being by
eating heathy foods, avoiding vices,

lifestyle change?” rest.”

table and fill up the column on L.”

your KWL?”
“Bring out 1 whole sheet of paper we will have (students prepare for the test)

one’s lifestyle can affect the functioning of the
respiratory and circulatory system. You can
