A. Opening Prayer

-Good afternoon class! -Good afternoon Ma’am!

-Anyone who will volunteer to lead a prayer? (Student Response)

-Let us vow our head and feel the
presence of the Lord. In the name of the
Father, and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit. AMEN!

B. Attendance:
- Before you settle down kindly pick up pieces of
papers and arrange your chairs.  Present ma’am
- Take your sits. Please say “present” if your name
is called.

C. Objective Presentation:  Objectives: Powerpoint

Before we are going to start our discussion, let us 1. Identify the kinds of fertilizers; presentation
first read the objective of our lesson. 2. Distinguish the appropriate
methods of fertilizer application;
3. Perform the fertilizer
computation methods.

D. Motivation:
 I will group you into four groups. Each of the  Group 1 formed the word Cut letters
group will be given different sets of jumbled FERTILIZER. Based on the clues given
letters. You will arrange the jumbled letters fertilizer is one of the input in
based on the clues given. You will present farming. This will help in the
your answers to the class and give insights to enhancement of the soil nutrient in
those words you formed. the plants.
 The first to present will be the group 1,  Group 2 formed the word
followed by group 2,3 and 4. NUTRIENT. Our group defined
nutrient, particularly in plants, as
the essential input taken by plants
from the soil to used in the food
making of the plants.
 Group 3 formed the word PLANT.
For us, plant is the main source of
animal and human food. This is the
only living creature that can
manufacture their own food.
 Good job! Let’s give each group a big YES clap.  Group 4 formed the word
 Based on the word that are formed our topic COMPUTATION. In this topic
for today is Plant nutrition which includes computation has something to do
kinds of fertilizer, methods of application and with the fertilizer application.
fertilizer computation.

E. Lesson Proper
Discussion
 This afternoon we will talk first on what is  Plant nutrition is the essentials forum with
Plant nutrition. Anybody from the class? elements that plants need to Powerpoint
work on their food making presentation
process.
 Very good! For you to understand deeply  Example is the three major
let us cite examples of plant nutrients that nutrients which are nitrogen,
are needed by plants. Who can give one? phosphorous and potassium.
 Right! Other examples?  Another mam are minor
elements just like zinc,
magnesium and manganese.

 Very good! So those are examples of

nutrients that are needed by the plants
which are found in the soil. There are lot of
nutrients that can boost the development
of the plant. But what if the soil has no
available nutrients? How can we help  This can be supplemented by
supply the plant with such deficiency? applying fertilizers to the soil.
 Yes its true! Fertilizer can help alleviate the
nutrient availability in the soil. Fertilizers
are classified into organic and inorganic  Organic fertilizer is made from
both in granules and foliar form. But how natural inputs like dry leaves,
can we differentiate organic fertilizer from plant debris and animal manures
inorganic fertilizer? while inorganic are made by
synthetic inputs.
 Exactly! Both fertilizers can be in granules
or solid form and foliar or liquid form.  Basal method. Fertilizer is applied
Fertilizers can be applied to soil in different to the soil after land preparation
methods. What are those? and before planting.
 Broadcast method. Fertilizer is
applied by broadcasting it to the
soil surface before of after
planting.
 Ring method. Applying fertilizer
near the root zone of the plant.
 Spraying. This is applicable for
 Very well said. These methods can be foliar fertilizer.
applied based on the preference of the
farmer.
 Since you have known how fertilizers are
being applied. The problem is how can we
know the amount of fertilizer that the soil  By computing the fertilizer to be
need? How can we know what nutrient is applied based on the
lacking? recommended rate that is
resulting from a soil analysis.
 Very good! This time I well show you how
to compute the fertilizer amount based on
the recommended rate.
 General Formulas:
WN
WF = ___________
FC

Where:
WF = weight of fertilizer
WN = weight of nutrient
FC = % composition / 100
Sample Problem 1:

RR = (90-60-30)
Fertilizer to be used:
Urea (46-0-0)
Ammonium phosphate (16-20-0)
Complete Fertilizer (14-14-14)

Solve first for K:

Kg Complete F/ha = 30/ .14 = 214.28

RR = 90 - 60 - 30
CF = 30 - 30 - 30
Bal. = 60 - 30 - 0

Kg AP/ha = 30 /0.20 = 150

150 kg AP contains 30 kg P and 24 kg N
150 x .16 = 24 kg N
150 x .20 = 30 kg P

60 - 30 - 0
24 - 30 - 0
Bal 36 - 0 - 0

Kg Urea/ha = 36/0.46
Kg urea/ha = 78.26

Complete Fertilizer (14-14-14) = 214.28 kg

Ammonium Phosphate (16-20-0) = 150 kg
Urea (46-0-0) = 78.26 kg

Next compute the number of hills or plants per

hectare.
No. of hills/ha = Area/ Planting Distance
= 10,000 m2 /0 .40m x .40m
= 62,500
Then,
CF/hill = 214.28 kg x 1,000 gram
1 kg
= 214,280 gram/ 62,500 hills
= 3.43 grams/hill
AP/hill = 150 kg x 1,000 gram
1 kg
= 150,000 grams/ 62,500 hills
= 2.4 grams/hill
Urea/hill = 78.26 kg x 1,000 grams
1 kg
= 78,260 grams / 62,500 hills
= 1.25 grams/hill

 Any questions?  No mam.

 Ok let us proceed to the activity I prepared
for you.

SHORT ACTIVITY
Direction:
1. Group yourselves into four. Group
2. Solve the following problem. activity

Problem 1: Mang Canor is planting his 10 hectares

field with coffee. He will need to fertilized his field to
augment the growth and development of his coffee
beans. The recommended rate for fertilizer application
to his field is 10-40-20. How much fertilizer he will
need when he has ammonium sulfate and ammonium
phosphate available?

Problem 2: How much fertilizer does a farmer need in

his 1 hectare field planted with cabbage when the soil
analysis result recommendation is 20-15-30, and the
available fertilizer he has is urea and ammonium
sulphate?

Problem 3:A 5 hectare of peanut was having the

recommended rate of 90-60-30. The caretaker will be
using complete fertilizer, ammonium sulphate and urea
to fertilized the field. Compute for the percentage of
fertilizer needed.

Problem 4: A 5 hectare of peanut was having the

recommended rate of 90-60-30. The caretaker will be
using complete fertilizer, ammonium sulphate and urea
to fertilized the field. How much grams of fertilizer per
hill is needed?

IV –GENERALIZATION
 The topic is about plant nutrition.
Plant needs nutrient to develop,
 Who can give now the summary of our
these nutrients are found in the soil.
topic?
These can be supplemented by
applying fertilizer both organic and
inorganic in different methods like
broadcast, basal, ring method and
spray method. A soil analysis will be
done to know what particular
nutrient is lacking in the soil and
fertilizer applied will be computed
based on the recommended rate.

V – EVALUATION
 In a ½ sheet of paper answer the following
question briefly. Paper pen
test
1. What is fertilizer? Its significance to farming?

2. How do plant gets its nutrients from the soil?

3. Compute. How much fertilizer does a farmer

need in his 1ha field planted with vegetables when
the soil analysis result is 20-15-30, and the only
fertilizer available is urea and ammonium
sulphate?

VI – AGREEMENT
 Make an advance research on hip-hop
dances.
