1. What critical approach did he use? Explain why you think that is the approach.
The critical approach he used is sociological critism because it focuses on man's relationship to others in
society wherein Mr. Noynoy Aquino and Filipino people are involved. Also, this story address the societal
issues in our country.
ACTIVITY 4
Directions: Read the poem “Adam”, by Hugh Cook critically. Criticize it using formalistic and feministic
approaches. Write your answers on your notebook.
In the formalistic approach, the "Adam" symbolizes the life we have in the modern world. It also focuses on
the name of the prominent figure, Adam in which he find Eden boring until his eyes fell on the forbidden fruit
and he ate it. Due to that, the was kicked out in the Eden by God. In this situation, Adam represents us, people
in the mordern world. We tend find another things if we get bored of something and that forbidden fruit
represents temptation while Eden symbolizes the usual things we get tired or rid to it. The main idea of the
poem "Adam" by Hugh Cook tells about that whatever the concequences or results, someone will take the
risk if that person is not contented of what he/she have but when the time that the consequences happened,
they regret it later on.
In feministic approach, after Adam find the Eden boring, his eyes fell into the forbidden fruit and later on he
ate it because he was tempted by the serpent and then he got punished. And at the end of the poem,
someone is running after him which it tells us that Adam has everything yet due to temptation and boredom,
he lost it yet despite of everything, there is someone who will join you and still accept you. We can relate this
to the modern world wherein eventhough the man committed something wrong, the woman will still accept
him and run after him.
ACTIVITY 5
Directions: Read or silently sing this song entitled “Bahay” by Gary Granada. Make your criticism by completing
the graphic organizer in the next page. Write your answers in your notebook.
Sociological The song "Bahay" by Gary Granada talks about the economical status of people , living
and owning a house made with rusted iron, old woods, broken tires, stones and othe
junk things. Granada wrote the song based of what he saw, describing what the
people went through. Due to that situation he approached those who might have
helped him, but he was ignored. The release of the song paved the way for the
awareness of people suffering from poverty and take action to this problem.
Structuralism The economic disadvantage in which people suffer so much from hunger, malnutrition,
limited basic needs as well as social discrimination. In this song "Bahay" by Gary
Granada, it expresses the huge differences between poor and rich in which the
unfortunate people cannot access to different needs , causing a big problem in the
society.
Reader- Response The concept of the song "Bahay" by Gary Granada which involves poverty, this could
be an awareness to everyone and people might be agree to this song and I am one of
them. The unfortunate people who describe in the song need attention and help yet
they have been neglected or ignored to those people who are capable of.

ACTIVITY 2
Directions: Below is the painting of “Bayanihan”; take a look at this, study, analyze, and write a
balanced/objective review of the painting considering the elements discussed. Write your review in paragraph
form in your notebook.
The painting, "Bayanihan," depicts unity as part of the culture of every Filipino. It is a 2D painting, showing the
vivid colors, and yellow is more dominant than the others, which symbolize happiness, love, and positive
vibes. It also shows the traditional home of the Filipinos, which is made of bamboo, nipa, grass, and other
native materials. Moreover, the skin color of the Filipinos are effectively shown to be brown. Filipinos in the
painting help one another in carrying the "bahay-kubo" over their shoulders. Aside from unity, being pet-
lovers of Filipinos are also conveyed in the painting in which the dog is represented as man's best friend. I
believe that this painting wanted the audience to understand the culture of the Filipinos; their willingness to
help one another without expecting anything in return. This reminds us to preserve that culture and to instill
that in our daily lives. I hope in this modern world, we Filipinos might appreciate, apply, and practice the
culture we had in the past.
ACTIVITY 3
Directions: With the use of four (4) techniques in writing, take a look at this painting and write a
balanced/objective critique or review. Write your output in your notebook.
The "Tropical Sunset Surfer" by Amy Scholten is a two-dimensional painting that shows an assortment of red,
orange, and yellow colors with smooth brushstrokes that make the artwork a realistic sunset and also show
the natural beauty of nature. The sunset is the focal point of this painting in which pale yellow starts at the
horizon, followed by a warm orange and burning red as the last color, creating a natural and beautiful ending
to the day. There's a silhouette of palm trees, grass, and the lady holding a surf board, after the relaxing and
calm grayish sea with the orange light reflected on it. Moreover, the silhouette of the surfer gives a dramatic
effect and strong characteristics while she is walking along the seashore. I believe that Amy Scholten wanted
the audience to experience the feeling of being at the beach with this beautiful scenery. It gives a calm and
relaxed feeling, the same as when going to the beach to ease stress or having a good time. Also, the painting
successfully conveys the importance of self-love, mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health. We can
relate the painting to reality in which if we see the sunset coming, it gives us inner peace and no matter how
long or bad your day is, there will always be something good coming. Remember, not all goodbyes are sad and
the sunset is the proof.
ACTIVITY 4
Directions: With this, write a balanced/objective review or critique following tips discussed earlier. Write you
review in your notebook.
The "Blood Compact Monument" sculpture by Napoleon Abueva is located in Bohol, Philippines. It has a rusty
metal texture, yet the details are well-defined. It is made of bronze material, which symbolizes power,
strength, and leadership. It relies on natural light so that the color of the sculpture shows naturally. Moreover,
the sculpture is giant-sized so that people can clearly see it from all sides, even from afar, as they visit the
monument. It also portrays friendship, trust, and agreement between the Spanish explorer, the chieftain, and
the Datu as they raise their hands, holding a cup that made history in the place of Bohol. This monument
reminds us what true friendship is, and we must take care of the trust given to us in order to achieve a
peaceful world.

"The Impact of the Korean Pop (K-pop) Industry on the Lives of Filipino Teenagers During the COVID-
19 Pandemic'
INTRODUCTION
The researcher has been a fan of K-pop. The impact of peers was the starting point . However, there
was a very long span of time when the researcher stopped admiring K-pop due to many instances. Not until
this year 2021, during pandemic the researcher's friends introduced her to a K-pop boy band, which reignited
her love and appreciation for the genre. K-pop saves the researcher's pandemic life through their different
songs and videos. It somehow changes the way the researchers behave and live in which she has already been
influenced in terms of mannerism, fashion as well as in buying things. With this, the researcher conducted this
study to find out whether K-pop industry has an impact on youths in amidst of pandemic.
Korean Pop (K-pop) started in the 1950s. But the modern form of K-pop developed with the earliest
form of boy group, Seo Taiji and Boys. Seo Taiji revolutionized Korean pop music by merging it with popular
American music. When they merged a new kind of music with hip-hop dancing, K-pop was born ( Arnaud,
2021)
In the year 2013, one of the most popular K-pop boy groups in today's generation, Bangtan
Sonyeondan (방탄소년단) also known as BTS made their debut. They are one of the reasons why K-pop is well
known around the world, including the Philippines. With their humble beginnings, hard work, well-performed
dances, catchy songs that connect to any age, convey social issues and other deep meanings, speeches and
humor that also spread positive vibes and inspiration, no wonder why BTS dominated the world with over 19.4
million followers on Twitter, 23.7 million on Instagram, 26 million subscribers, millions of fans, and sold out
albums. Aside from that, they broke a lot of records, such as the first K-pop group to speak at the United
Nations, the first K-pop to top the US album charts, and too many to mention (Google, 2020). Due to their
various achievements, they have become a role model for many K-pop artists and fans. They are only one out
of many K-pop artists in South Korea that give outstanding performances and songs, as well as a variety of
shows that entertain so many fans regardless of gender, age, nationality, and others.
BACKGROUND
Nowadays, Korean Pop (K-pop) is becoming more popular all over the world, including the Philippines.
With 18 countries, 22.7% of respondents said that K-pop is very popular in their country ( Statista Research
Department, 2021). Enhypen, TXT, Blackpink, Twice, Seventeen, and BTS are only a few K-pop groups that
have millions of fans all over the world. Aside from being good-looking K-pop idols, a lot of people, especially
teenagers, admire their songs and dances as they deliver deep meanings that connect to people and they
perform well-synchronized and intense choreographies. K-pop fans looked up their idols to see who they
influenced in terms of fashion, behavior, and culture. In this time of pandemic, the strict implementation of
lockdowns and safety measures including stay at home orders are very devastating for teens, especially in the
year 2020, in which they have started to temporarily close schools and change the education system in which
distance learning is implemented (Pragholapati, 2020). When Covid-19 existed in teenagers' lives, they
encountered more stressful situations, including loss of family income, no face-to-face interactions, events,
and the like. So, this study will therefore help to understand the impact of Korean Pop (K-pop) on the lives of
teenagers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research will therefore focus on the emotional and mental
states of teens who are fans of K-pop. We want to know if K-pop has positive or negative effects on the
stressful situations that young people experienced during the pandemic.
OBJECTIVE
The research paper seeks to achieve its general objective of the impact of Korean Pop (K-pop) Industry
to the lives of teenagers during the Covid-19 Pandemic by focusing on the specific objectives:
1. To determine the percentage of teenage fans who are mostly into K-pop in terms of gender.
2. To determine the mental and emotional effects of fonding the K-pop industry on teenage fans.
3. To determine the different habits (good or bad) as they watch their K-pop idols and listen to their songs.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
2. Does K-pop help you reduce stress in the new normal set-up of education, schoolwork, loss of face-to-face
interactions, and other stressful situations brought on by this pandemic? Or is K-pop a hindrance to your
studies, or is it a source of stress for you?
3. Do you have any bad habits, such as sleeping late, skipping meals, etc., due to watching K-pop?
4. Do you have good habits such as wanting to learn new things (language, culture), being motivated to
improve and loving yourself every single day, etc. due to watching K-pop?
METHODOLOGY
In order to understand this study, the researcher will choose both qualitative and quantitative
paradigms in which the researcher will conduct online surveys by providing questionnaires in order to get the
percentage of the various aspects such as gender, mental and emotional effects, and habits of the Filipino
teen fans. Also, the researcher will conduct interviews in order to further explain the impact of the K-pop
industry on the lives of Filipino teen fans. The quantitative data gathered will be analyzed using correlational
analysis in order to know if there is a significant relationship between the variables. While the qualitative data
gathered will also be the main source of the discussion and interpretation.
The study will conduct among 110 respondents in Ormoc City in the 4th quarter of the year 2021.
RESEARCH TIMELINE
This study is expected to be completed within 20 weeks with the following indicated as the activity's duration
for every section of the research study:
1. Title 1 Week
2. Introduction 2 Week
4. Background 3 Weeks
5. Objectives 1 Week
