Cabunao Elementary School launched a community-based reading program dubbed

“Brigada Pagbasa” on August 24, 2021 at the Barangay Health Center, So. Mangga, Brgy.
Palampas. This activity is in support to DepEd Hamon: Bawat Bata Bumabasa (3Bs
Initiative) and World Vision to address literacy gap among learners in community. Prior to
this event, the School principal Ma’am Rosemarie A. Mahinay, called for a meeting to all
teachers to work out a plan in preparation for the activity.
Mission East Asian National Support (MEANS), as the partner advocacy organization
of the school for long years and the City Public Library, greatly took part on this through
their donated books and reading materials which were utilized by the teachers and pupils
during the duration of the activity.
Reading short stories, letter recognition, sound syllables and reading word sentences
were among the activities done during the remedial reading process. Our parents and other
stakeholders were involved in the Reading Remedial. They were given instructions
regarding the activities and also were ask to extend their help in the said program by
monitoring and continuously guiding their children at home when it comes in reading.
The program started with preliminaries, followed by a message given by the school
principal, Ma’am Mahinay. Mr. Renelou V. Lopez, the School Filipino Coordinator gave the
overview of Brigada Pagbasa. Messages of support were given by the representatives coming
from the parents, teachers, pupils and Barangay Health Workers. Ma’am Mahinay gave her
gratitude message to everyone who were present and asked for their

support for Brigada Pagbasa, encourage various sectors who could volunteer to do reading
sessions with their children. Ma’am Marivic C. Suerto, in her closing message said that
“despite of the current health crisis we experienced due to COVID 19, we should think
positive ways on how we can address literacy issues and provide solutions and
interventions”.
