Polar bears are carnivores. Their main food is Arctic animals, especially seals and reindeer. They get
to eat about thirty kilos of food a day like polar bears.
Polar bears are classified as marine mammals because they spend most of their lives on the sea ice
of the Arctic Ocean.
They feature a thick layer of body fat and a waterproof coating that insulates them from air and cold
water. They are talented swimmers: they can maintain a pace of six miles per hour (9.6 kph)
paddling with their front legs while holding their hind legs flat like a rudder.
They polar bears spend more than 50% of their time searching for food. A polar bear can catch only
one or two of the ten seals it hunts, depending on the time of year and other factors. Since they
need large amounts of fat to survive, since they need large amounts of fat to survive, they mainly
feed on ringed and bearded seals.
Doctors’ investigations have divided the total polar bear population into nineteen units or
subpopulations. Of these, the latest data from the Polar Bear Specialist Group of the International
Union for Conservation of Nature show that three subpopulations are in decline and it is estimated
that there is a high risk of decline in the future due to climate change. as of May 2008, the polar bear
was considered a threatened species in the United States, under the Endangered Species Act.
