I. LESSON
The learner demonstrates understanding on
A. Content Standard inferring the conditions necessary for heat
transfer to occur.
The learners perform an activity conveying
B. Performance Standard process of heat transfer using cups, water of
different temperature, and spoon.
At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able
to:
LC1: Infer the conditions necessary for heat
transfer to occur. S7LT-IIIh-I-12
Specific:
a. describe the conditions for heat transfer
occurring in cooking activities.
C. Learning Competencies b. perform an activity conveying process of
heat transfer using cups, water of different
temperature, and spoon.
c. apply an understanding of heat in
comparing and evaluating materials and designs
we utilize at home that maximize or minimize heat
energy transfer.

II. CONTENT HEAT – HEAT TRANSFER

1. Teacher’s Guide
Pages
 WEEKLY LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEETS
2. Learner’s Materials
Pages General Physics 1, Grade 12, Quarter 1, Week 3-
Heat – Heat Transfer
3. Textbook Pages  E-book pp.
4. Additional POE Sheet, beaker, hot water, cold water, metal
Materials from knives, plastic knives, butter, sugar, coffee cup,
Learning Resource spoon, matches, index card, candle, LCD, video

IV. STRATEGIES & Experimentation (Differentiated Instruction)
OTHER ACTIVITIES Focus Science Skills: Interpreting, organizing,
observing
 Preliminaries
A. Introduction
 Motivation – Scrambled Words
B. Activity Activity 1: POE – “Butter Melting”
Have a beaker of hot water and a beaker
of cold water on the table. Place 1 pat of
butter on one end of each material: 2 metal
knives, & 2 plastic knives. Place 1 sugar
cube on top of each pat of butter. Put 1
metal knife & 1 plastic knife in the hot
beaker butter side up. Repeat with the
other materials in the cold beaker. Ask the
students to predict what they think will
happen to the butter and sugar cubes.
 Let them write their answers following the
POE table. They will fill out the first two
columns, P and O. Collect the papers to
see their answers. Return these after the
lessons to complete the remaining
columns.
Activity 2: Feeling Hot, Hot! (Carousel)
 Let the students group themselves by 3.
 Station 1: Using coffee cup, spoon and
boiling water (be careful with boiling
water), let them perform the activity as
indicated in the worksheet.
 Station 2: Using coffee cup, spoon and
cold water.
 Station 3: Using candle, matches, index
card and ruler.
Guide Questions:
1. How does it feel when you touch the spoon
after one minute?
2. Why did you feel heat from the flame even if
you did not touch it?

 Convey comparison of the 3 methods of

heat transfer in a Venn Diagram.
C. Analysis  Let them share their ideas by reporting
their output to the class.

 Let them view a video presentation on heat

transfer from
https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=pRnURDgfByE
 Return the POE Sheet, let them answer
D. Abstraction
the third column. with their explanation to
the observed demonstration.
 Make a generalization by asking the
students question about the topic.

 What are the materials and designs we use at home

E. Application in order to maximize or minimize heat energy
transfer?
A. Essay
V. ASSESSMENT Describe the different methods of heat transfer
and give at least one example each. Which
method is useful when grilling?
 Explain how the energy from the sun
VI. ASSIGNMENT reaches us through the vast expanse of
space.
