I. Objectives

1. Identify what mode of heat transfer takes place in the different daily life situations.
2. Compare and contrast the mode of heat transfer.
3. Cite some important application of heat transfer in our daily living.
A. Content Standard
The learners demonstrate an understanding of how heat is transferred.

B. Performance Standard

C. Learning Competency (Write the LC Code for each)

Infer the conditions necessary for heat transfer to occur.
D. PISA Competency
General: Explaining phenomena scientifically Specific: Recalling and applying appropriate
scientific knowledge General: Interpreting data and evidence scientifically
Specific: Analysing and interpreting data and drawing appropriate conclusions
E. K to 12 Curriculum Competency and Curriculum references
12. infer the conditions necessary for heat transfer to occur. (S7LT-IIIh-i-12)
Grade 7 Content:
V. Heat
1. Heat Transfer
1.1 Conduction
1.2 Convection
1.3 Radiation
Prior competency:
Grade 4: 4. describe how light, sound and heat travel;
Grade 5: 3. discuss why some materials are good conductors of heat and electricity;

Spiraling Concepts: In Grade 5, they learned about the different modes of heat transfer. This
time, they explain these modes in terms of the movement of particles.

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson

The teacher will ask questions

Motivation

The teacher will show a picture to the students and

follow up questions will be asked.

What do you think is the reason why an ice melts?

Because of warm weather

What do you think is the reason why an ice cream melt

in the table?

Because it’s hot in the

surroundings

Why do we need umbrellas and sunglasses during

sunny day?

What do you think is the common in this picture?

Because of the heat coming from

the sun.
It is heat ma’am.

B. Establishing Purpose for the lesson

In this lesson, the learners are expected to

1. Illustrate the three modes of heat transfer.

2. Compare and contrast the mode of heat
transfer.
3. Cite some important application of heat
transfer in our daily living.
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson

Now class, let us have a picture puzzle. As you can see, I

have 3 envelopes here. Inside it is the picture that you
are going to form.

I will divide the class into 3 groups. Each group will

have 1 envelope with the picture. I will give you 5
minutes to do that.

And remember class, you must stay with your respective

group because after the activity I will give points to
those groups who can answer my question regarding the
presented topic we have today. Is it okay with you?

Okay, you may now st

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1
How did you find the activity? It was great ma’am.

What were your observations in the activity you The pictures show hot objects. All

and possess heat.
Precisely! God job Glenn.
You’ve mentioned about heat and temperature. Do you They are not the same Ma’am.
think they are the same? Temperature is a measure of how
Yes Ariana? hot or cold the object/body is
while heat is an energy than can be
transferred.
What do you think is the direction or flow of the heat
energy?
Possible answer: It always takes
from the substance of higher
temperature to the substance of
lower temperature. And it will

the heat will transfer. This is because the molecules are
vibrating faster and transfer their energy to the molecules
vibrating slower.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

Let us go back to the puzzled pictures.
The three pictures present the three modes of heat
transfer.

Can you describe me the picture in the first group? The wooden stick, plastic fork and
metal spoon were put into a hot
water.

Expected answer: metal spoon,

(Wooden stick, plastic fork and metal spoon)

Why is the material a conductor of heat?

Because most metals are a good

through a direct contact. Part of the spoon is heated by
contact with the hot water. The heat is transferred
through the metal spoon, particle by particle, until the
entire spoon is hot.

cold water? The reason why hot water will
evaporate.

Very Good, when you boil a water, it turns hot and its
evaporating. The heat is transferred from fire to a pot.
And this process is called convection.
It is through the fluid movement

become less dense and they rise
above the denser cooler molecules.

It’s a fire and the hand. You can

that is necessary for heat transfer to
occur is that two object must have
different temperature. Like what we
Are we clear about the types of heat transfer
have discussed earlier that heat
always flow or move from the hotter
object to the cooler one.

F. Developing mastery
The teacher will flash a picture and the students will
identify what mode of heat transfer is taking place.
G. Finding Practical Applications of concepts and skills in daily living
ACCEPTABLE ANSWER
In our home kitchen, heat moves
from the cooking fire directly to
my hands and face – you can feel it
directly – this heat transfer is called
radiation.
Heat from the cooking fire can also
move through our metal fire poker
– you can feel it making the handle
hot – this heat transfer is called
conduction.
Heat moves from the cooking fire
to the whole room through the
heating of the air above the fire
which then circulates to warm all
the air in the kitchen – this heat
transfer is called Convection.
H. Making Generalizations and abstractions about the lesson
The Teacher will let the students answer.

I. Evaluating Learning

I. Direction: Write Conduction, convection or Radiation in the blank space to show the type of
heat transfer.

becomes warmer
3. ______

5. ______

II. Compare and contrast the different Heat Transfer.

III. Cite at least five applications of heat transfer in our day to day living.

Five Life Applications of Heat Transfer Mode of Heat transfer.

I. Additional Activities

B. No. of learners who require additional activities for
remediation who scored below 80%

C. Did the remediation lesson works? No. of Learners who
