Lesson title: Meeting, greeting and introducing people
Type of lesson: vocabulary lesson;
Lesson (main) aims: - to observe the way that people greet round the world;
-to learn about nationalities and to be able to make the difference between
them;
- to practice the newly acquired vocabulary in various contexts;
- to be able to talk about oneself and about the rest of the world;
Subsidiary aims: - to be able to describe a image ;
- to practice the work in pairs;
- to use one’s imagination;
Skills: speaking, reading, writing, listening
Anticipated language problems: Pupils/students could become a bit noisy when working in
pairs/groups; some of them (the dominant ones) may try to answer too often and exclude the
others. In some cases, pupils may not understand the task given by the teacher;
Possible solutions: the teacher may ask pupils simultaneously to speak; He/She may repeat the
task in order to be clear for everybody;
Teaching aids: the manual, a handout, pupil’s notebooks, the blackboard, a tape recorder, a tape;

Activity 1, listening activity
Aim: To familiarize the pupils with the new lesson;
Procedure: First of all pupils are going to open their books at page 17 then they are going to listen
to exercise 1 and they are going to complete it.
Interaction: lockstep

Materials: manual, tape recorder, tape;

Activity 2, writing activity


Aim: To complete a writing exercise based on the information mentioned in the previous
exercise;
Procedure: As the lesson continues, the teacher provokes her pupils to use their memory in order
to complete exercise 2 page 18, in written and in pairs.
Interaction: T-Ss, pair work;
Teacher’s role: observer
Skills: speaking, listening, writing, reading;
Materials: blackboard, manual, pupil’s notebooks,;

Activity 3, speaking activity


Aims: To be able to introduce a person to another person;
To be able to work with a partner;
Procedure: In the following moment the teacher encourages pair work and invites her pupils to
describe themselves to their desk mates;

Aim: To be able to read and understand what is being read in order to complete an exercise;
Procedure: Pupils are invited to read exercise 5 page 18 and to complete it.

Activity 5, reading activity


Aims: To understand some information that is being read during the class;
Procedure: The teacher reveals to her pupils page 19, tells them some curiosities about some
nationalities, and invites them to read the information they can find there.
