QUY TẮC CHUYỂN DANH TỪ SỐ ÍT SANG DANH TỪ SỐ NHIỀU
1) Thêm “ s” vào đằng sau danh từ: girl –> girls, board-> boards,
2) Thêm “es” vào những danh từ tận cùng bằng “ o,z,s, x,ch,sh”
glass – glasses ; box – boxes;
Tuy nhiên có một số từ vay mượn,hoặc từ viết tắt, tận cùng là “o” nhưng vẫn thêm “s”
Kilo – kilos, kimono – kimonos, photo- photos, piano – pianos…
3) Những danh từ tận cùng là “f” ,“fe” -> “v” và thêm “es”
Wife – wives; life – lives; wolf – wolves; leaf – leaves;
Tuy nhiên một số danh từ vẫn không theo quy tắc trên:Cliff – cliffs; roof – roofs
4) Các danh từ bất quy tắc ( biến đổi hoặc giữ nguyên)

foot – feet; mouse – mice; goose- geese; sheep – sheep (không đổi)
5) Những danh từ tận cùng bằng “y”

- nguyên âm + “y” -> + s vào :Toy -> toys boy -> boys day -> days
- phụ âm + “y” -> đổi “y” sang “i” và thêm “es”:Lady – ladies; baby – babies
6) Đối với danh từ ghép:

– Thường chỉ thêm “s” vào từ đứng sau:armchair –> armchairs;school-boy –> school-boys
– Các danh từ ghép với giới từ hoặc trạng từ thì chỉ thêm “s” vào danh từ đứng đầu tiên:

Cách viết ký hiệu sở hữu cách:

2- Ta chỉ thêm dấu lược vào sau danh từ số nhiều có tận cùng là “s”.
Ex: The teachers’ room is over there.(Phòng giáo viên ở đằng kia.)
3- Ta thêm dấu lược và chữ cái “s” vào sau danh từ số nhiều không có tận cùng là “s”.
Ex :The shop sells children’s clothes.(Cửa hàng đó bán quần áo trẻ em.)
4- Khi muốn nói nhiều người cùng sở hữu một vật hay nói cách khác là có nhiều danh từ sở hữu thì ta chỉ
thêm kí hiệu sở hữu vào danh từ cuối.
Ex: Tom and Mary’s house is beautiful.(Nhà của Tom và Mary rất đẹp.)
* Lưu ý:
Tom’s and Mary’s houses are beautiful.(Nhà của Tom và của Mary rất đẹp.)
Sự khác biệt giữa câu này và câu trước là câu này hàm ý Tom và Mary mỗi người sở hữu một căn nhà riêng.
