Speed sensor
• The camshaft sensor is used to
detect the „Cylinder 1 TDC
position“
• In order to do this it monitors
the 6+1 pins on the high-
pressure pump driving wheel.

Basics of the Unit Pump System


Principle

• The unit pump system (PLD) system is a modularly-


constructed high pressure injection system.

• For each cylinder it consists of an injection pump, a


short high pressure injection line and the nozzle holder
combination, see illustration.

• The injection pumps are driven by the camshaft.

• The start of injection and the injection quantity are


measured using a solenoid valve for each cylinder. The
solenoid valve on the injection pump is controlled by the
engine drive unit.

• Modern distributor injection pumps may generate a


maximum pump pressure of 800-1000 bar. With today’s
PLD systems, an increase of this maximum pump
pressure to around 1500 bar is possible.
