Topic: PRINTERS’ CORRECTION SIGNS AND MANUSCRIPT

Learning Objectives: By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
1) identify the Printers' correction signs;  2) master the signs and their meanings.

PRINTERS’ CORRECTION SIGNS:

Printers' correction signs are signs used by editors to mark corrections on a handwritten
or typewritten work before it goes out for final printing.
Printers’ correction signs can also be called Proofreaders’ signs/marks; it is used to draw
the attention of the typesetter whenever amendment is required on a typewritten or
handwritten work, for the production of a final and meaningful copy.

Printers’ correction signs and their meanings are shown below:

NOTE: When a word is written on the margin in capital letters and boxed, it indicates that the word is not
showing clearly in the text. However, the typist should type the boxed word where the unclear word
appeared but not in capital letters.

ASSIGNMENT: Carefully study and master the Printers’ correction signs with their
meanings. In the next lesson, we shall demonstrate the use of the signs in a manuscript.

Stay safe and remain blessed!
