A. Content Standard:
The learner demonstrates understanding of:
 Art elements and processes by synthesizing and applying prior
knowledge and skills
 The salient features of the arts and crafts of Southern tagalog
Islands and the Visayas Group of Islands showing the relationships
of the elements of art and processes among culturally deverse
communities in the country
 The Philippines as having a rich artistic and cultural tradition from
pre-colonial to present times
B. Performance Standard:
The learner:
 Creates artworks showing the characteristic elements of the arts of
Luzon (highlands and lowlands)
 Exhibits completed artworks for appreciation and critiquing
C. Learning Competency:
At the end of the module, the learners are expected to:
 Select one of the provinces of Luzon (possibly, where his parents or
grandparents came from) and for each province, find out the various
arts, crafts, architecture, that the province is known for and what its
history is.
 Draw the different artifacts, crafts of the one of the provinces from
northern Luzon and one from Southern Luzon and select a dominant
design or motif noting the lines, colors and shapes and compare them.

IV. Procedures
Day 1
A. Motivation and Research/Discussion-Art History
1. Ask students what province they or their parents, grandparents
come from or where they lived for some time. Encourage the
students to share their memories about the province familiar to
them.
2. Students may read about a particular province or region. They could
find out the following:
o Language spoken in that region
o Crafts or industry the province is known for and why-what
materials they use; where materials are sourced
o Where crafts are used and when is it sold
o Particular designs or motifs used
3. Discuss the arts and crafts of Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon
Day 2
Art Production
Activity 1: Art of Paper Cutting
Pastillas wrapper designers are not as many as they were before.
However, paper cutting in the Philippines, through online media, is slowly
getting popular again. It has taken a different turn and is not only being used for
pastillas wrappers but also used for invitations, party favors and other forms of
gift items.

a. Discuss the arts and crafts of Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Bataan;
their architectural landmarks include old churches and structures.

c. What did you discover after studying the arts and crafts of Luzon?

V. Enrichment Activities/Assignment
a. If the church builders used egg white as a binder for mortars to build
churches during the Spanish colonial period, do you think we can still
use egg white as one of the materials in building structures at
present? Why or why not?
b. Research and find out what happened to the building structures that
used egg white.
