PERCEPTION PRECEEDS REALITY

Perception: A process by which individuals organise and
interpret their sensory impressions to give meaning to
their environment
Impressions→Perception:
 Generating perception is in inbuilt stimulus
 Mostly, first impression leads to perception
 Backed by supporting evidence
 However, what we see may not always be true

FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE PERCEPTION
Perceiver:-
• He is the observer in the situation
• Based on his knowledge, skill, training, interest,
expectation, self concept and attitude he forms and
opinion on others in that situation.

Situation:-
• The environment and the cirumstances in which
the receiver and the target are situated.
• Timing, work environment, social environment in
which both the parties are present.

Target:-
• He is the subject in the situation
• Physical appearance, verbal communication, non-
verbal communication of the target triggers the type
of opinion created about him.
