5 Sociogenic motivators of life

Sociogenic motives are those that we learn through social groups,


especially through our family.

They vary from person to person depending upon one’s personality.

The following are some of the sociogenic motives that we face in


our everyday lives:-

1.Achievement :-
● It is the type in which a person has a drive to achieve
their goal.The need for achievement theory was stated
by Mc Clelland et al, in 1953
● Achievement theory refers to competence i.e. a condition
or quality of effectiveness, ability, sufficiency or success.
● People seek to become accomplished and prefer to work
on task that are challenging.
● The source of achievement motivation could be one’s
parents or role models who they look up to.
● For e.g. when we score less or around average in an
exam we are motivated to achieve good in the next
exam, in my childhood i was awarded a perfect
attendance award for maintaining a 100% attendance in
school, that was an achievement.which i did by
continuous effort.
2.Curiosity
● It is a need, thirst or a desire for knowledge.A person’s
drive to explore or to increase their level of knowledge.
During childhood is when curiosity motive is the most
powerful
● A good example of curiosity motive could be seen in
people indulge in travelling, they are curious to explore
places, to know about the place, it’s history, culture and
different ethics. The curiosity to know more is what
results in this action.few years back i visited ranakpur
jain temple in rajasthan, it was because i read about it in
an article stating that it stands on 1444 marble pillars
parallel and symmetrical out of which one is not parallel
and out of curiosity i visited the temple.
3.Aggression
● To overcome opposition forcefully, or the need to fight
and take revenge, to belittle, curse or ridicule the other.
● Aggression motive is one of the most commonly seen
type of motivation in a person.Aggression motive may
results from frustration.
● Most common, everyday source of aggression is a
verbal insult or negative evaluation from another person.
● For e.g. an everyday example could be of two siblings
fighting over television about what to watch, or who will
watch their content first.it could be verbal or sometimes
physical

4. Order
● A motivation to put things in order, to keep things
organized and in order, is one of the motivation in our
daily lives or To keep our things organized and our
surrounding or place clean to achieve a sense of
cleanliness
● For e.g. i wake up everyday, attend my class, have
breakfast in between, then take a break watching netflix
etc., go out for a walk, at last make notes and revise. An
order of schedule that i get motivated to maintain.

5.Power

● The power motive is the need to gain power.


● The goals are influence, control, lead, charm others,
enhance reputation.
● The power motivation varies in strength from person to
person.
● People with power motivation express themselves in
taking upon leadership.
● For e.g. by participating in sports like hockey, football or
it can be children participating in debate or by taking up
jobs that require leadership etc.During the sports day of
my school when i was a part of the school parade band,
there i was chosen to lead the school band for the
parade.it was an opportunity or my strive to display my
power by leading the band.
