Subject and Verb Agreement

SỰ PHỐI HỢP CHỦ NGỮ VÀ ĐỘNG TỪ

Concept: Sự phối hợp giữa chủ ngữ và động từ có nghĩa là căn cứ vào S mà ta chia V ở số ít hay số
nhiều, và ngược lại căn cứ vào V mà ta có thể chọn được S.

The famous actress accompanied by her bodyguards is entering the theatre.
The number of girl students in our class is big.
A number of my students are happy about the exam result.

1. Khi chủ ngữ là 2 hay nhiều danh từ nối với nhau bằng liên từ “and”, động từ chia số nhiều.
- Mr Smith and Mrs White are talking about their own life.
- Mr and Mrs Johson are on holiday this week.

2. Khi chủ ngữ là 2 hay nhiều danh từ nối với nhau bằng liên từ “and”, nhưng trước mỗi danh từ
được bổ nghĩa bằng tính từ “ each/ every” + N + V chia số ít.
- Each student and each teacher is offered a bouquet of flowers.
- Every man and every woman is happy about their children when they are obedient and
study well.

3. Khi chủ ngữ là 2 hay nhiều động từ nguyên thể nối với nhau bằng liên từ “and” động từ chia số
ít.
-To earn, to keep and to spend money is very difficult today.
- To speak, to listen and to write English well is not easy for leaners.

4. Khi chủ ngữ là “The number of” động từ chia số ít. (số lượng)
- The number of boy-student in my class is small.
- The number of people in the exhibition is amazing.

5. Khi chủ ngữ là “ A number of” , động từ chia số nhiều. (một số)
-A number of workers are standing at the factory gate, They are against the Board of Directors.
- A number of my students are studying very diligently.

6. Khi chủ ngữ là “ The majority + V chia sô ít. (đa số, phần lớn..)
- The majority is worried about their coming exam.
- The majority is responsible to their study.

7. Khi chủ ngữ là “ The majority of + N + V động tư chia theo danh từ.
- The majority of my books are in English.
- The majority of his wine is the gift from clerks.

8. Khi chủ ngữ là danh từ hoá được cấu tạo từ tính từ để chỉ chỉ lớp người, động từ chia số nhiều.
