1. Các TH luôn chia V số ít ✓
1 S số ít đi với V số ít
2 S là đại lượng chỉ
+ thời gian + tiền bạc

3 S là đại từ bất định:
+ someone, everyone, …
+ anything, nothing, another, …
4 S là mệnh đề danh từ
5 S bắt đầu = “To V” hoặc “V_ing”

8 Một số N có hình thức số nhiều nhưng • News
lại chia V số ít
9 S bắt đầu bằng “Each/Every”

2 Một số N không kết thúc bằng “s”

3 2 chủ ngữ nối với nhau bằng “and” và
có quan hệ đẳng lập thì V số nhiều
(Tuy nhiên:
+ 2 N chỉ cùng 1 người, 1 bộ, 1 món
ăn, … thì V số ít (lưu ý: không có

 muốn đề cập số ít thì phải dùng a

3. Động từ có thể dùng số ít hoặc số nhiều tùy trường hợp ✓

a) Chia theo chủ ngữ thứ nhất
- Khi chủ ngữ được nối với nhau bởi các liên từ:
+ as long as, as well as
+ with, together with, along with
+ in addition to, accompanied by, …
- Ex:
+ She along with I is going to university this year.
+ Mrs. Smith together with her sons is going abroad.
+ My father as well as the other people in my family is very friendly.

b) Chia theo chủ ngữ thứ 2

- Khi có cấu trúc:
+ Either … or … + … or …
+ Neither … nor … + … nor …
+ Not only … but also … + Not … but …
- Ex:
+ Either you or I am right.
+ Neither her mother nor her father wants her to be a teacher.
+ Not only the house but also the surroundings have been destroyed.
+ My parents or my brother is staying at home now.

c) A number of/ The number of

A number of + N số nhiều + V số nhiều
Ex: A number of students are going to the class picnic

The number of + N số nhiều + V số ít

Ex: The number of days in a week is seven

d) Động từ chia theo N đứng sau of

- All of - Some of - One of
- A lot of - Part of - The last of
- Lots of - Percentage of - Minority of
- Plenty of - The rest of - None of
- Majority of - Half of
- Most of - A third of
Ex1: One third of the oranges are mine.
One third of the milk is enough.
Ex2: All of the students have been rewarded.
All of the money has been spent.

e) N1 of N2: V chi theo N1

- The study of how living things work is called philosophy.
- The aims of education are formulated in terms of child growth.
- The flock of birds is flying to its destination.

f) Một số N chỉ tập hợp

Congress Family Group Crowd
Organization Team Army Committee
Government Jury Class Club

- Nếu như xem N chỉ là 1 đơn vị thì chia V số ít  Ex: The committee is having its annual dinner
- Nếu như chỉ từng cá nhân tạo nên tập thể thì chia V số nhiều  The committee are going back to their
homes.

g) There/Here + be + N
- Động từ tobe chia theo N
+ There are two sides to every problem.
+ There is a picture on the wall.

h) Đối với mệnh đề quan hệ

- Chia V theo N torng mệnh đề chính
+ The man in blue shirt is my boss
+ The book my parents bought is mine.
