MODULE 9

The person that I interviewed is Mr. J.B. he’s living in Kinasang- an Pardo, Cebu
City, working as Security guard and has monthly income of around 10,000 per
month. Mr. J.B. has a piggy bank that he used to put 20-30 pesos daily. They also
have a small garden in their backyard like moringa and chili. Mr. J.B does not have
any cooperative but his wife has own cooperative in the church. Mr. J.B family
social structure belongs to working class because of low grade salary and having a
family compose of 4. Mr. J.B. is a pure Filipino and a Christian. The family of Mr.
J.B., always go to church every Sunday and joining worships. Mr. J.B. can speak
Bisaya, tagalog and basic English. He lived in a crowded environment, lots of
neighbors and prone to floods and fire. His house components are made up of
cement walls in the ground floor and plywood in the 2nd floor. Mr. J.B. always do
commute everyday for work. Sometimes he rides jeep or tricycle. Mr. J.B.
youngest child having a condition called asthma and according to him, that they
always let their daughter to be checkup. Other than that, other members of his
family including him are considered okay.

His wife always going to market everyday to buy foods. They practiced to always
eat vegetables to have a good nutrition and also can saves daily budget.
Sometimes Mr. J.B brought them some biscuits and milk as their snack every 3 in
the afternoon. They have MCWD connection as source of their water for daily use
and in every Sunday, Mr. J.B. buys 2 galloons of mineral water as source of their
drinking. According to the foods that they always eat, 3 times daily excluding
snacks and the posture of his children, I think they have a good nutrition and diet
base on my observation. They also know how to assess wounds of their children
by putting moringa on it. The most common disease in the community and in
their family are common cold/flu and dengue because of their poor environment.
Poor self and environment hygiene can cause health problems that most of them
can suffer. According to him that it is hard to go easily in the health center due to
numbers of people also want the service. Lack of health workers and drugs are
also the problem of their barangay.

In conclusion, my friend taught me that being in low section is very hard and can’t
easily to avail direct services due to financial problem and lack of knowledge. He
said that the important for now are the safeties of his family and how to get up to
their situation.
