II. Summary
Project Ugnayan sa Paaralan was created to address the gaps in terms of the participation
of parents and other stakeholders to school initiatives and activities. The activities and program
included in this project will motivate the stakeholders to be a part of the school community and
provide an avenue for them to be heard and support the school.
The whole school learning community will be enjoined in this project by contributing
their time, talent, and resources in building relationships and improving the quality of school
services. This will follow the school calendar to avoid overlapping of activities.
Sources of fund can be generated from the PTA, alumni organizations, and private
individuals who are willing to support the school initiatives. Approximately, this project would
need P10,000 to conduct series of meetings, focus group discussions, and establishment of good
relationship with the whole community.
This innovation seeks to cultivate partnerships with the families and community where
the school is situated. Based on the participation of parents during school meetings and activities
for the last two years, there was only 24% participation rate or only 1 out 4 parents who attended
meetings.
The set-up of distance education somehow provided barrier that kept parents from
physically go to school and communicate with the teachers regarding the academic status of their
children. And vice-versa, it also created inaccessibility for teachers to reach their children and
form partnership with parents because of the many responsibilities that they need to address.
And since we are gradually returning to full implementation of face-to-face classes, it is a
great opportunity to reestablish close relationship with the families and learning community to
address learning gaps and other challenges brought about by the pandemic to the school. This
project will adopt the African Proverbs that ‘It takes a village to raise a child’. The school
believes that it cannot address all the challenges in its implementation of programs, but with the
support of the families and community, it can overcome all these hurdles.
In addition, this will adopt Epstein’s framework of six types of involvement on the
proposed activities and initiatives that will be included in the project. And hopefully, this project
can bring about collaboration among the community in terms of the provision of services,
resources, and accountability to student learning and development.
