1.1 Applications
The ZSU-5D/5DS is fluoroscopy equipment that comprises the X-ray television system FLEXAVISION
SF Package, FLEXAVISION HB Package, FLEXAVISION FD Package, and FLEXAVISION F3
Package, which are mainly intended for use in diagnoses of the chest and digestive organs.
Fluoroscopy
General Radiography
Digital Radiography
FPD Portable Radiography
(Optional)
By attaching options, the apparatuses such as the bucky stand, bucky table and wireless FPD can be
used in combination.
1.2 Features 1
User-friendly Console
Various operations are available from a single console, i.e. operating diagnostic table and configuring 1
fluoroscopy/radiography settings. Advanced console design can respond flexibly to an immediate
radiography setting change. Multi-division exposure is achievable with the same operation for cassette
radiography as well as digital radiography (for FLEXAVISION and FLEXAVISION ).

Operating X-ray Diagnostic Table Selecting Multi-division Exposures
Wide-Examination Variety 1
• Large-area exposure including chest radiography or urology examination can be performed with
14" x 17" size cassette.
• Extending the X-ray tube unit by 1.5 m FFD (standard feature) enables a deglutition observation 1
even for patients in wheelchairs.
• Group examination mode provides a significant increase in the examination throughput (with
FLEXAVISION and FLEXAVISION ).
• Effective for chest radiography, examination of the urinary organs and so on using a 17" 14"

1.3 Principle 1
• FLEXAVISION , FLEXAVISION and FLEXAVISION
This equipment visualizes the X-rays, which are radiated from the X-ray tube unit and passed
through the patient's body, using the image intensifier on the X-ray detection unit, picks up the
1
images using the television camera, and displays them on the monitor.
The images are not only displayed on the monitor but also recorded on the internal storage of the
digital image memory device. The user can play back the recorded images and apply various
processing on those images.
1
This equipment can also obtain flat images of the patient's body by measuring X-rays passed
through the patient's body on a film cassette or photostimulable phosphor plate cassette loaded
on the cassette radiography unit.
The optional X-ray tube swing-out unit allows for taking X-rays by directing the X-ray tube 1
towards the lieder stand or stretcher.
When combined with the X-ray radiography unit for the second X-ray tube (optional), it is also
possible to perform radiography using the second tube.
1
• FLEXAVISION
This equipment detects the X-rays, which are radiated from the X-ray tube unit and passed
through the patient's body, using an FPD, converts the detected data into image signals, and
takes them into the digital image memory device.
1
The images are not only displayed on the monitor but also recorded on the internal memory
storage.
The user can play back the recorded images and apply various processing on those images.
When combined with the X-ray radiography unit for the second X-ray tube (optional), it is also
1
possible to perform radiography using the second tube.

3.1.1 Purpose
Start-up maintenance is required prior to operation in order to keep each unit in perfect condition, and
to prevent system malfunction during diagnoses.
3.1.2 Procedure
The start-up maintenance procedure is described in "Checklist for Start-up Maintenance" in the
REMOTE-CONTROLLED R/F SYSTEM FLEXAVISION Operation Manual. The list is intended to be
copied and filled in at every maintenance.
We recommend that the completed checklists be kept on hand for a certain period.
The [Power ON] button on the remote console turns on/off the whole system
including the X-ray diagnostic table and the X-ray high-voltage generator.
Confirm that no work is being performed in the examination room before turning on the
power.

Press the [Digital Radiography Technique] button for spot radiography (digital spot exposure) and
serial radiography (digital continuous exposure). The DR technique allows you to perform an exposure
while observing fluoroscopic images in order to locate the region being examined. Acquired image data
can be post-processed in the digital radiography unit.
For details on the digital radiography, refer to the following operation manual.
The radiography condition is limited to 50 kW for serial radiography in the digital radiography.
Also, do not perform serial radiography under the radiography condition exceeding the high-
speed serial load rating that is described in the X-ray tube instruction manual.

Cassette Radiography
To perform radiography, place a cassette directly on the tabletop and then place the region to be
examined onto the cassette.
FPD portable radiography is performed for examinations that do not involve fluoroscopy.
Taking the FPD out of the tray and connecting it to the sensor unit cable (option) allows tabletop
radiography and stretcher radiography using the FPD. 4
The X-ray filter can be used in FPD portable radiography.

Be sure to clean the equipment frequently and after each patient use.
While doing so, do NOT directly apply or spray any disinfectant, cleaner, or water onto
the equipment. Wipe down all contact surfaces using a cloth moistened with an
appropriate disinfectant or cleaner. Make sure the cloth is NOT too wet. If it is, liquid
may enter into system electronics, causing failure or malfunction.
Hold the grip on the sensor cable (option) when connecting or disconnecting the
connector.
Making the connection while holding the sensor cable itself or pulling on the sensor
cable can break wires in the cable and lead to short circuits.
Perform chest radiography by extending the X-ray tube unit with the tabletop in the vertical position and
lengthening the FFD/SID. The FFD/SID can be extended up to 1.5 m on standard systems and up to
1.8 m/2.0 m on systems equipped with the relevant option (excluding FLEXAVISION ).

• Neither the radiography technique nor APR ( ) settings will change automatically.
* For the radiography by extending the X-ray tube unit by 1.8 m or 2.0 m FFD, use the cassette holder

4
• The vertical position of FLEXAVISION is not completely at 90 angle but tilted by 2 for
safety. Therefore, when combined with a lieder stand or bucky stand for general radiography,
the exposure center will slightly shift due to the vertical angle 88, in the horizontal direction of
the bucky device according to the longitudinal movement of the imaging unit. 4
(The shift amount is 3.5 mm per 100 mm movement of the imaging unit.)
For this reason, when using a position-fixed type radiography stand, it is recommended to fix
the stand according to the position where the imaging unit is the most frequently used.

In cassette radiography, fluoroscopic images are not reflected on radiographic images because
of the difference in height between the fluoroscopic and radiographic image reception areas.
Consequently, the radiographic and fluoroscopic fields are different when the X-ray tube is in an
inclined position.
If the oblique projection unit is used in combination, the speed at which the tabletop tilts will
decrease in accordance with the angle of the oblique/tilt or the position of the imaging unit.
When extending the X-ray tube unit, oblique operation is not available.
Shift [Compression Control Lever] on the console to compress the patient’s region. Compression can
be performed when the system is equipped with a compression unit.

5.1.1 APR
With the APR (Anatomical Program), radiography settings such as kV, mA/mAs and sec can be
registered to an APR button. These conditions can be called up by selecting the button for the desired
region to make an exposure. Each APR button contains one program.
The APR is linked to the radiography protocol of the SDR-150C when using FLEXAVISION .
Because there can be multiple radiography protocols linked to the same APR, it is necessary to
select all the radiography protocols used by the SDR-150C and check that each protocol is
configured with appropriate radiography conditions when changing the radiography conditions
registered to an APR.
For details, contact your Shimadzu service representative.
