About the Program

The Entrepreneurial Nation, an initiative by The UAE Ministry of Economy, is proud to announce the
launch of SkillUp Start in partnership with BizWorld UAE. SkillUp Start is an education program to help
students become entrepreneurs and think like one. The program is designed to train applicants in critical
skills like financial literacy, leadership, creativity, and teamwork, among others.

The Program is available in both languages; Arabic, and English.

Program Eligibility
● Students studying in the UAE between grades 8-12
● (3-6) team members (the applicant plus 2-5)
● Reference from a mentor/teacher/industry expert
● Completed business model canvas
● Video pitch submission quality

Phase 1
Forming the team
● Put together a group of 3-6 students (grades 8-12)
● Assign the roles of the team (CEO, VP of Finance, VP of Design, VP of Manufacturing, VP of
Marketing, VP of Sales.
● Recruit an adult mentor who can be a teacher/entrepreneur you know.

● Can two jobs be merged?

Yes! Marketing and Sales can be together / Design and Manufacturing can be together.

Phase 2
Education Program

Phase 3
Ideation and manufacturing/prototyping

Key Check points:

● Have you decided on your idea?


● Can you briefly explain your idea?
● Did you create a design for your idea?
● Do you have a prototype?

Frequently asked questions:

● If I am building an application, do I have to have a fully functional App?

No, but a clear design and a clear display of its functionality is required

Phase 4

Submission
To submit your application:
1- Prepare:
● Business Model Canvas- Template
● Investors Pitch Deck - Template
● Short video about your project/company to be uploaded to Youtube / Vimeo
1. Instructions on how to upload on Youtube
2. Instructions on how to upload on Vimeo
Video Guidelines:
● All team members need to be present with cameras on
● Time: 3-5 minutes
● Resolution: 1080p (if not available, then 720p)
● Format: MP4
● Make sure that you are capturing the video in good light condition, and that there is minimum/no
background noise for clear audio.
● Video link to be uploaded unto the designated question in the application form

Phase 5

Final Panel and Judging Criteria

● Application date is May 21 2022


● Ten submissions will be shortlisted
● Final Panel of Judging by esteemed external judges will take place on May 28 2022
● Announcement of winners will be 4 June 2022

Judging Criteria:
● Clear articulation of problem statement and business idea solution
● Clear target audience and geographic target
● Scalability
● Feasibility
● Creativity and originality

About the Young Entrepreneur Award


● Open to all students who complete 6 week program
● Team of students (3 - 6 students) can apply to the competition with a mentor or teacher if they
have not completed the 6 week program
● Students have access to BizWorld content and supporting documents online
● Students have access to Weekly Q&A Sessions
● All teams submit a video pitch and a full application form
● 10 top teams will be selected to Pitch to a judging panel
● 1 team will be selected to win an experiential trip to Silicon Valley during the summer of 2022
● 1 team will be selected for the People’s Choice Award via online voting for the best team based
on their video pitch
● Students to submit final Presentation on May 21st, 2022

About the Trip


● One week trip to include campus visits at: Google, Draper University and other leading
companies.
● Workshop to be conducted at Draper University with leaders in the field.
● Excursions in Silicon Valley.

Phase 6

People’s Choice Award


● Video pitch to be uploaded onto the portal
● Students will be invited to share this with their friends and contacts to gain votes
● Group with the highest vote will win the award
● Prize includes mentorship from an established entrepreneur to help with their business idea
