INTRODUCTION
There are different forms of writing that a writer uses when writing. One may
write something to inform other about factual informations, like the ones that we can
read in the news section of the newspaper, or present an argument using factual
evidences to prove his/her point. Also, one may write something using his/her
imagination just to entertain others, like short stories.

Today, you will have an overview of what creative writing means and how
does it differ from other forms of writing like technical/academic writing.

Creative writing is also termed as imaginative writing. It is simply


writing in a creative way. It is also known as the “the art of making things up”
in literature. It is done in a way that is not academic or technical but still attracts
an audience. It is considered as any writing that is original and self-expressive.
Creative writing made Achilles, Hercules, Spiderman, and Batman exist. To
write creatively, one must use his or her imagination.

The purpose of creative writing is for the writer to attempt to get at a truth
about humanity through poetics and storytelling; to entertain and share human
experience, like love or loss; and to use imagination to express feelings or
thoughts through writing. Some of the types of creative writing are poems,
short stories, plays, movies and television scripts, speeches, memoirs, personal,
and fiction (movies, novellas, and short stories).

Writers use different techniques to evoke feelings from the reader and to
show their style of creativity in writing. These techniques help the readers to
theme that the writers wants to convey. The writers may use character
development, plot development, vivid setting, underlying theme, point of view,
dialogue, anecdotes, metaphors and similes, figure of speech, imaginative
language, emotional appeal, or heavy description as a technique in creative
writing.

Technical writing or academic writing is a used to inform, instruct, and


persuade the audience supported by facts. It is clear, precise and
straightforward in writing because its purpose is to deliver a the information

right away. In academic writing, specialized vocabulary is used in writing


because it is addressed to a specific audience. It is very objective in nature.
To understand more of the difference between creative and
technical.academic writing, here are their key differences.

In style, creative writing does not have to comply for specific style
parameter, while academic writing needs to be structured and executed
adhering to guidelines.

For audience, creative writing I for general audience, while technical is


for specific audience.

For purpose, creative writing entertains, while technical writing transfer


information.
In language, creative writing can use slang or common language, while
technical used specialized vocabulary.

GENERALIZATION

Creative writing is fictional and imaginative. One is creatively


writing when one uses his/her imagination and uses his/her feelings to
evoke meaning in what he/she writes. While technical writing is based
on facts. One who writes in academic knows that there are boundaries of
what it can write, only to convey knowledge, data and information.
When writing, these two differs in style, purpose, audience, and
language used.

EVALUATION

Write a short scenario, at least one paragraph, of your ideal graduation. Be


creative and imaginative as much as you can. Use descriptive words that would
appeal to senses for your reader to vividly feel your ideal graduation. Make sure to
follow the basic rules of grammar like capitalization, spelling, and use of period at the
end of every sentence. Write in the box provided below.
