Function Generator
Function Generator
Experiment No. 06
Aim To use control knobs of Function Generator (FG) for generating various
signals and conduct measurement of these signals using control knobs of
Digital Multimeter (DMM). To understand the RMS measurement of these
alternating signals.
Objectives 1. Use the front panel control knob of the given Function Generator for
generating following signals one from each category: Set appropriate
parameters like amplitude, frequency, duty cycle, offset, etc. whichever
applicable.
i. Sine with and without DC offset
ii. Bipolar Square with 50% Duty Cycle
iii. Unipolar Square (Pulse) without 50% Duty Cycle
iv. Triangular

Theory
Function generator:
A function generator is a piece of electronic test instrument used to generate and deliver standard
waveforms, typically sine and square waves, to a device under test. It can be used to test a design or
confirm that a piece of electronic equipment is working as intended.
Circuit:
Sine wave:
Amplitude Voltage (peak to peak) = 3.5 V, Frequency = 1 kHz

Vp-p = 3.5 V
VRMS (calculated) = 3.5 ÷ 2 = 1.75 V
VRMS (observed) = 1.7498 V

Triangular Wave:
Vp-p = 3.5 V
VRMS (calculated) = 3.5 ÷ (2√3) = 1.010 V
VRMS (observed) = 1.008 V
