TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM

MENTORING SESSION FOR MODULE 1

JOURNAL
Module 1 mentoring
Mentee: LAZABELLE A. BAGALLON
Mentor: RAHNELYN BONILLA

Today is the very beginning of our mentoring for the Teacher Induction Program modules. I am so
glad that I am guided by a very smart and supportive mentor Ma’am Rahnelyn Bonilla. We had our
mentoring before I can start working on my modules since I have a lot of questions for my mentor on
how to properly work on the modules.

The topics for module 1 includes Mandate, Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Strategic Directions,
Deped Organizational Structure and School Processes, Teaching as a Profession and as a Vocation,
Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers, Career Path Within the Department of Education,
Magna Carta for Public School Teachers, Code of Ethics, RPMS and Salaries, Wages, and Benefits for
Teachers.

This topic is an eye opener for me, it has given me a lot of information which is I really needed as a
new teacher. But of course, since I’m still new, I had a lot of questions for my mentor regarding
certain topics that I am having a hard time understanding. But since the topics are not that too
complicated and quite interesting, we were able to finish our mentoring in just a couple of hours.

In Module 1 I learned the DepEd organizational structure, I was able to understand

the different school systems and processes and their support to school policies and procedures and
its importance to foster harmonious relationship with the wider school community. Because of
this module I was able to evaluate myself vis-a-vis professional characteristics of teachers
where I realized that I need to show behaviors that uphold the dignity of teaching as a profession by
exhibiting qualities such as caring attitude, respect, and integrity.

Another thing that I like in this module is I was able to familiarize the
seven domains and the different career stages of the PPST in realizing one’s professional
goals, I was able to demonstrate understanding on the PPST and its impact to the
realization of one’s professional practice and goals; this module made me aware on the
Magna Carta of Public School Teachers in Basic Education and the professional rights,
opportunities, benefits, and responsibilities. Exhibit professional behavior as set out by
the Code of Ethics for Teachers in the Philippines. I was able to reflect on current
teaching practices and identify development needs for personal and professional
improvement.

All in all, my first mentoring with Mr. Roger Corros was a very productive one. I was not able
to finish answering all the activities and tests, but I now have a better understanding about what the
topics are all about and am confident that I will be able to answer the activities on my own thanks to
the help of my mentor. We will see each other again on the second mentoring for the second
