In this pandemic era in the begining of 2020 there are a lot of social interaction become
online and also become phisical and social distancing. Public place is closed, government
office is closed, and also school is closed. But recently, so many public places and offices are
opened with using health protocoler. Why, school is still closed. Actually, school can open
like the other places. Because it’s important for national development. Here are the good
reason why school must be opened.

For students point of view in small town when internet is less, many students can not or
dificult to join in school class. Because their internet is limited even no signal area. They look
for the good internet working for joining the teaching and learning process. It’s really
hardfull effort.

For teacher poin of view, there are some e-learning method in “one-way”. It makes less
interaction between teacher and students. The result, the teacher feel dificult to explain next
material.

For those reason, school can open for a good teaching and learning process with health
protocol rules.

Gregarious birds symbolise a peaceful connection between the people living in this tranquil
natural archipelago. Birds are also animals with the largest population in Indonesia and one
of them represents the symbol of the nation. Spanned wings show openness, a desire to fly
away across borders. Universal by nature, its wonder should be easily recognised by all.”
Representation of Indonesia
As the largest archipelago in the world, Indonesia has many unique characteristics. In order to
understand the representation of those characteristics, this MA research will be focussed on
the Wonderful Indonesia promotional videos. The Wonderful Indonesia videos highlight the
different themes of Indonesia, such as culture, nature, and city theme.

In one of the videos titled “Nature and Ecotourism”, the viewer is given a beautiful scenery
of islands, volcanic mountains, national parks, comfortable resorts, and undersea exploration.
With more than 13.000 islands in Indonesia, there are many unexplored islands with massive
mountains for hiking and camping, long coastlines with rolling waves to surf, and enormous
remote destinations for diving. The marine diversity in Indonesia is one of the strongest
points. The sea life in Indonesia has been promoted through various videos, titled “Bunaken
National Park”, “Raja Ampat Papua” and “Diving”. A survey by The Nature Conservancy
(TNC) in 2002 claims that Raja Ampat islands have the highest marine diversity on earth
with over 1.000 species were recorded and with 537 coral species, around 75% of all known
species.

Diving in Raja Ampat

Cultural tourism is also has a significant role in Indonesia with a massive cultural diversity
throughout the islands. Direct promotion of the nation’s culture can be seen in the videos
titled “Culture and Heritage”. It shows various ancient temples, celebration and funeral
events, arts and crafts, and dance performances. More than 200 ethnic groups with different
religions, customs, and traditions have welded and it produced a unique Indonesian
creation. Batik, Keris, Wayang and Angklung  acknowledged as World Intangible Cultural
Heritage by UNESCO in 2009. Another strong point in cultural tourism is the performing
arts. Indonesian dances vary from dramatic war dances from Kalimantan, Papua, and
Sulawesi to sophisticated and calm dances from Java with gamelan orchestra.
Traditional dance in Bali

Not only the traditional values but the Wonderful Indonesia campaign also starts selling the
modern qualities of Indonesia. The video titled “MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences,
and Exhibitions)”, displayed high-end facilities for convention centres, exhibitions, golf
courses, gymnasiums, shopping malls, hotels, and nightlife. Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and
Makassar are the centre for business and leisure. Jakarta, the capital and the largest city in
Indonesia, has more than 170 shopping malls, the biggest one is Mal Kelapa Gading with 130
square kilometres.

Shopping in Jakarta

The target market of the Wonderful Indonesia campaign is an international tourist with high-
income (over £27.000 annually), according to the World Banks’s Gross Nation Income
(GNI). The major market for this campaign is Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, China, Japan,
South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, United States, United Kingdom, France, India,
Germany, the Netherlands, the Middle East countries and Russia.
In order to measure the image of Indonesia’s tourism, a small-scale online survey was
published. A sample of 30 respondents of foreign citizens has been analyzed.

Result of images attributes: nature, urban life, culture, culinary

Natural tourism has the most positively perceived among other options. 88% of the
respondents are totally interested and the rest are slightly interested. It is likely that foreign
tourist has a beautiful impression of Indonesia’s natural resources and sceneries.

Culinary and culture has also ranked high among the respondent. However, urban tourism has
mixed responses. 43% of the respondents are highly interested, 33% are slightly interested,
while the rest are not interested. These results make clear that urban tourism in Indonesia is
not really popular among potential tourists.

MUSIC IS FUN FOR LEARNING
Learning EnglishLearning English through music and songs can be very enjoyable. You can
mix pleasure with learning when you listen to a song and exploit the song as a means to your
English progress. Some underlying reason can be drawn to support the idea why we use
songs in language learning.
Firstly, “the song stuck in my head” Phenomenon (the echoing in our minds of the last song
we heard after leaving a restaurant, shopping malls, etc) can be both enjoyable and sometimes
unnerving. This phenomenon also seems to reinforce the idea that songs work on our short-
and-long term memory.

Secondly, songs in general also use simple conversational language, with a lot of repetition,
which is just what many learners look for sample text. The fact that they are effective makes
them many times more motivating than other text. Although usually simple, some songs can
be quite complex syntactically, lexically and poetically, and can be analyzed in the same way
as any other literary sample.

Furthermore, song can be appropriated by listener for their own purpose. Most pop songs and
probably many other types don’t have precise people, place or time reference.

In addition, songs are relaxing. They provide variety and fun, and encourage harmony within
oneself and within one group. Little wonder they are important tools in sustaining culture,
religion, patriotism and yeas, even revolution.
Last but not least, there are many learning activities we can do with songs such as studying
grammar, practicing selective listening comprehension, translating songs, learning
vocabulary, spelling and culture.
From the elaboration above, it can be concluded that learning through music and songs,
learning English can be enjoyable and fun.
