GE14 – UNDERSTANDING THE SELF

A. INSTRUCTIONS AND GENERAL GUIDELINES

After the discussion of the psychological perspective in understanding the self, your task is to become
acquainted with different aspects of your personality, specifically based on Costa and McCrae’s theory. Psychological
tests allow us to get a glimpse into our own personalities. These tests measure different variables, including various
abilities, aptitudes, and factors of personality. This activity is designed as a way for you to see yourself through the lens
of the five-factor model of personality. For this OBE Task, please refer to the following guidelines:
1. Log on and answer the IPIP-NEO Personality Test (Short Version) through the link
http://personal.psu.edu/faculty/j/5/j5j/IPIP/ipipneo120.htm
2. Complete the activity through the attached template. Each one will be provided with a blank template that
can be edited directly.
3. Afterwards, answer the processing questions.
4. The outputs must be submitted through Google Classroom as a PDF.

From your output on the IPIP-NEO, answer the following questions:

1. Do these results make sense to you? If yes, how so? If not, what results were you expecting?
2. How do these qualities show up in your day-to-day life? Give one example for each of the five factors.
3. Select the highest and lowest score based on the GENERAL SCORE for each factor. If the scores are a
tie, choose only ONE. Relate your experiences, behavior, and overall personality to the factors where you
obtained the highest and lowest scores. For example, if you got the highest score on extraversion, explain which
part of you as a person is related to extraversion based on the verbal interpretation of the personality test.
